Demoting Sentient Species to the status of Animals is insulting to the sentient species. Just because they aren't Humans doesn't mean they are by default animals.

You wouldn't call Vulcan's animals. Nor would you call Yoda's species animals either (though a case could be made for Ewoks and Wookies I suppose). Therefore you shouldn't classify Miqo'te as Animals just because they have cat-ears and a tail.
