"They're not ready for it" is a 100% bullshit excuse. The only way to change society's mind is to forcibly alter how a system works, regardless of whether or not the misguided feel "ready". If you wait for when they feel "ready", you're never going to get anywhere.

Well you say that, but if you try to force how a system works, they could just fight back doubly hard. We have to use diplomacy and take time with things. I'm not saying we have to shut up and wait, but we can't force people to change their minds so quickly. That will just turn them hostile and virulent.

I want same-sex marriage in FFXIV as much as you do. But if you try to force it on a populace that isn't ready for it, all that's gonna happen is that violence is going to erupt, and I'm not ready to deal with a bunch of homophobes ruining my gaming experience.

I of course would have said the same thing. It is a matter of ethics and morality, and I don't see how insulting someone's ethics can ever be the right way to go. If you want to sway people to your way of thinking, you are much more likely to with showing them what you think is right about what you think, not what you think is wrong about theirs.

You called other people's opinions misguided and their attitude toward other humans faulty, just because they don't agree with you. I'm not saying anything about your views, I am saying things about how you insult others about their views. This is fantasy game not real life. If you want to add marriage just don't call it marriage call it like "life bond" or something then you can "life bond" whoever you want and avoid the whole heteronormative BS.
