Yep, hostility and ad hominem really strengthens your arguments. First you call me a feminist, then you criticize my choice of games. Neither of these has anything to do with the point I was trying to make. Some girls are afraid to play girl characters because they've received a lot of unwanted advances (not JUST flirtation, by the way) on other games. I never meant that ALL girls have had that experience. Whether or not it has happened to you means absolutely nothing.

But not in this game, so people bringing up "I play male because people hit on me" in a game where they don't, are missing the point.

Just because YOU haven't run into it in this game doesn't mean no one has and that it never happens. And how would someone come to this game from another game and KNOW they won't have an experience they've had on other games?

And yet I don't hide in my mansion. Most of the time I'm gathering, doing my dailies, crafting, what have you, accessible to all. No Hitting On Me, from anyone. People don't fucking care about random unknown people they don't even interact with.

FFXIV has no community outside of forums, so interaction with random people is pretty minimal. Especially when you avoid DF/PF etc. Some people don't have that option.

And once again, good for you. I don't hide from the game either. I'm also still playing a female character despite aforementioned problems I've run into on other games. If someone else chooses to play a male character because they want to play the game free of any of that potential drama, more power to him/her. I don't know why you're getting your panties in a wad over this and attacking me when other people on this same thread have said they play males chars to avoid male advances. Your personal experience with it is completely irrelevant to their experiences.

I don't claim to understand the psychology behind the decision, but I've played a female character in nearly every game I've played since I was a child. I just enjoy it more - not sure why.

I love the cliché answer that all you want to do is look at a girls butt. There probably is some truth to that, and just generally when looking at a character liking what you see.

But that's not real issue here. Some people cannot fathom being some one else. Not sure if this is a lack of empathy, or what. These people make these threads on all MMO forums. You have to realize that some people can identify with other characters and don't make an avatar of themselves in the game. That's rather boring. Other people touched on it. A lot of people don't have to have a similar avatar as themselves to identify with he character.

As for the revealing outfits thing. You would be surprised how many females do that to their character. So no, if there is a Paladin in a bikini you can't just assume it's a guy.

All assumptions are likely correct about some people. Personally, I find the narrative more interesting for female characters - or smaller more gender neutral guys. Big muscly guy characters can get boring after a while to me - maybe it's from years of watching Whedon's shows. That, and I usually find that dextrous female characters in MMOs have more interesting animations (not overtly sexually but maybe because I am straight). So, Miqote it is.

It's certainly not for favors. Male characters get hit-on more on my server...
