Friendship, camaraderie and working together exists in PvP too. You're still working with a team - your enemy is just another team rather than a scripted encounter. As much as I think your idea is sound, my suspicion is that the player demographics are just not into pvp. Many who play the game are long time followers of the ff franchise and it has always been more about friendship, camaraderie and working together rather than fighting each other. Its kinda like the tank and healer shortage and even offering incentives for players to play those roles didnt really help much.
Maybe a large scale pvp battle between factions would pique some interest, my 2 cents
I guess what I'm trying to say is it has always been a heavily story driven experience which culminates in defeating an npc final boss. As it stands now, pvp is just a couple of minutes of arena that ends as quickly as it builds up. That is why i think adding of factions to the story somehow might encourage more players to try pvp.
What they need to do is make it more fun and addicting. Right now, PvP just feels like a grind and nothing more. In fact, it doesn't even feel like true PvP to me. Some things they can do to make PvP better:
- More arenas. At least 3-4 more.
- Larger PvP arenas
- More modes! capture the flag, free for all, etc
- Larger scale PvP. 8 vs 8, 16 vs 16, etc
- Balance it out so you don't absolutely need 1 tank and 1 healer per every 2 DDs. Maybe introduce some healing abilities for tanks and DDs, defensive abilities for DDs and healers, and good offensive skills/spells for tanks and healers that are all exclusive to PvP.
- Open world PvP challenge! let players flag themselves for PvP so other players can challenge them.
- Get rid of PvP specific stats
Multiple rounds.
I don't like sitting in queue forever for a 1 min fight. If PVP were best 3 out of 5 rounds and CDs didn't reset so you had to conserve the right ones for rounds, then things would be more interesting and strategic.
I like this idea. Would improve it a lot.
If they offer decent rewards and give something other than Arena-PvP, I think you'd be surprised just how much the demographics would be into it. Arena is a garbage gameplay mode and was extremely unpopular even in WoW where they tried to push it so massively heavy on the populace. Here, it just seems like an afterthought AND isn't interesting. Combat isn't deep enough for these small-scale and enclosed battles.
I'm not sure what you are arguing against. The alternatives to arena pvp are objective based pvp like ctf, large scale pvp and open world pvp. With how casual the playerbase is, world pvp is out so that leaves us with the first two. But you have to realize that large scale battlegrounds take time and money to create and with the focus mainly on pve in recent patches,it might actually be a while before we see some battleground style pvp. Frontlines seem to be on the horizon,so we'll see what that entails. If they offer decent rewards and give something other than Arena-PvP, I think you'd be surprised just how much the demographics would be into it.
