Any idea how does it work? Tier V materias or something special?

Facetiously, I think it turns dungeon equipment into status effect materia.
OK, it sucks, from reddit:
Regarding Materia transmutation, because SE's translators just love removing details.
After completing the below quest, hand Mutamix 5 unwanted materias to transmuate into a random materia.
At least I have another option for those tier IV element resist materias now....
Well done, 2.25 did nothing like 2.15/2.16
Any idea if that would be a random materia from the same tier, or if this means that a tier IV could potentially be turned into a random materia from any tier? Seems kind of useless if what you say is true.
At least, I get to free up some storage space,...
Never a mind was changed on an internet board, no matter how good your arguments are...
Conversely, your useless Earth I could turn into a Savage Aim IV. It could be completely random or you might get better luck by transmuting higher level materia, but either way, the elemental materia will finally be useful for .. something.
Well one of my FC mates turned in 5 elemental I's and got a random Teir I. He tried 5 elemental IIs and got a random Teir II. He did 2 Is, 2 IIs and a III and got an elemental I. He then tried 5 elemental IV and got a heavens eye IV. 4 teir IIIs and a I gave him a teir III. So it seems it will either give you the average of the Teirs or it selects a random teir of what you put in.
So all those people that bought out the tier Is are boned cause they will probably only get more tier Is

Unless of course you get another elemental. I presume that would be unlikely though.
Playing around with it a bit, so far it seems like it's based on average grade of the materia used (e.g. 5 grade I will give you a random materia of grade I or II whereas 3 III and 2 II can give you grade II or III). Chance of upgrading is fairly small.
Wow, this is possibly the most useless new system I have ever seen in my years of MMOs. Thanks, Square, for driving up the price of the elemental and tier I materia that I (used to, back when I could afford to) and everyone else use to spiritbond. Less bonding = fewer high tier materia = higher prices across the board in every tier. Did you perhaps feel that the 500k most crafting\gathering Tier IVs are going for after the patch was not high enough?
