My native language is Spanish, and while it'd be nice to have spanish version for spanish speakers who don't speak english, I'd rather play english because then I get to speak it everyday for practice and then I'll never ever forget it. XD
Being in a foreign country at the moment where I have to speak english everyday helps a lot, I'll never get rusty! lol

And I agree with you. If they would translate game to Spanish... I'd probably still using English client, because I don't feel like using the auto translate function for items and so... Would probably only change to spaniard client for doing the history quests again (Lazy to read all what Minfilia says in English)

But as I said... I didn't make this topic thinking only about myself.

    I am from Spain.

The problem is not the game, it's translated or not. the spanish community place a wall in front of them and other community speakers, so they never try to learn

You know, Sweden, German, Poland, Indian, Italian, French... they can speak english but we not or at least, with a great level of speech.

Atm, i am raiding with a english speakers FC, sometimes it's hard to understand, but i use the game as a platform to learn others languages.

not correct translation but more or less that's what it means for me.
I would simply write "Esperenlo porfavor" or just "Esperenlo". It's formal but not too formal, which is the tone Yoshida has on these forums. :3

This is insensitive. Lol. But I guess its expected of the forum population.

Just because the OP can write fairly well (anyone can see its somewhat broken, but good considering the circumstances), doesn't mean he/she is fluent in any way. There are different levels of understanding a language, and most, like OP, have a FUNCTIONAL level of a second language, which isn't the same as being bilingual (Reinhart, for example, is bilingual JP/EN). It takes YEARS to become bilingual if you didn't grow up speaking the languages. Understanding the basic UI of the game is not difficult in itself, but when you get down to the heavy things like quest text, storyline, or even where to go (like duty list text "Visit Thancred at the Waking Sands" etc) is where their guesswork begins.

To people like you who just think comments like these, put yourself in their shoes: would you be playing this game if it was in Japanese only? Or would you wait for a translated version? True you could get away with looking up spell names and whatnot in katakana, but would it really be enjoyable having to tab back and forth to Google translate, wishing there was an easier, more natural way to understand what people were saying or what one particular quest was about?

I fully support OP in the request for a Spanish version of this game. I've been waiting a long time for it myself ;3 And to back the OP on this front too, I know many many many people who would pick this up if it was in Spanish. As a bilingual Spanish/English speaker, I would actually prefer to play this in Spanish, since its my preferred media of choice.

And here we have a message of someone that actually takes the bothering of at least trying to understand the others.... And that's awesome. Thanks for commenting here and supporting this, Vilhem.

It is rare nowadays to find people that actually can try to see everything from the perspective of the others, to put in their shoes, as you said. Because doing that is making a big jump ahead to the comprehension, understanding and respect of the rest.

Your comment won a like from this noob.

I'm pretty sure they've considered the release of a Spanish lang. version, but from a business perspective, it's not a good move and that's why they haven't gone ahead with the development. Just looking at numbers of people, it would make more sense to release a Spanish client before a German, but when you weigh in the economic possibilities of the population of these communities, that's when the problem comes in.

For Spanish users, the most income would probably come from Spain, the most developed Spanish language speaking country in the world. Spain has been in a huge recession in the past few years, leaving not many people to pay or dump time in an MMO. Then you have Latin America, we all know the economic status of that part of the world, so although big in square miles, not very appealing for this type of business.

Also, Spanish is my native language but like some have said in here, I would not play on a Spanish client even if it was released. I installed FFIV the other day on my iPhone (which is set to Spanish) and it defaulted to Spanish and I had a hell of a time relearning all the spell names in Spanish, not to mention at me going "WTF" on some of the names (Lázaro for Raise, for example). I guess this is something they might take into consideration, that not every one will convert if it's released.

Still, I'm up for the client. It will for sure make it easier/more appealing for some and it will make others who don't speak English but want to play the game the possibilty of finally getting on. That's my opinion on that and what makes the most sense to me.

FFXI never had a Spanish-language version either and I never understood that...so many people in the world speak Spanish! At the least, they should add Spanish translations to the auto-translate dictionary and for update notes and such...
