Hey, gang. I wanted to bring you the official details that Yoshida has recently posted (at crazy hours mind you!) this morning on the Japanese forum. Here's what he had to say on the topic of the upcoming job system.
Hey everyone, this is producer/director Yoshida.
I seem to recall there being a discussion about what each class will become job-wise in a previous thread. While it's still a bit too early to talk about the specifics, I will let you know a bit about the plan. Once it becomes possible to publicize the specs, I plan on making a post in battle mechanics section, but since job implementation will be taking place post-class balance adjustments, it is going to take some time. (Planning for post patch 1.20.)
Matsui, Gondai, and myself, are creating this plan, and the early jobs are based on "party balance."
In other words, here is the basic premise:The above are just the foundation, and of course it doesn't mean that these are the limit of what types of roles we'll feature. I hope that this gives you something to discuss and speculate about.
- Tank
- Attacker
- Damage Dealer (Nuker)
- Healer/Crowd Controller
- Buffer/Crowd Controller

didnt get the quote in there but whatever, it says post patch 1.20 so basically jobs arent coming till AFTER patch 1.20, so figure october earliest, possibly later.
all in all means we probably should stop thinking about them. they are pretty far off

Well it depends on the timing of 1.19 and 1.20, which I think they are already working on even though 1.18 hasn't come out yet.
But I think you're right, remember that table from "Letter from the Producer X"
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...805-20-2011%29
It lists the content that is supposed to be implemented before the end of the summer, and under the "job system" category, it's written that the system will be developed, but in no way implemented within that time-frame.

I apologize in advance if I offend anyone for bringing this topic back up again. But I think in light of the some of the new information we have learned in the last few weeks, this particular discussion can progress further.
Now combine that with the Lodestone post on July 17th.Hey, gang. I wanted to bring you the official details that Yoshida has recently posted (at crazy hours mind you!) this morning on the Japanese forum. Here's what he had to say on the topic of the upcoming job system.

Now if we agree to ignore the FFXIV in-game lore and just concentrate on analyzing the RPG party mechanics of the game ... it seems like Conjurer is being groomed to help fill Yoshida-san's #4 Role of "Healer/Crowd Control", along with whatever Job that will be overlayed on top of it (presumably White Mage).Originally Posted by Patch 1.18: Miscellaneous Adjustments (07/14/2011)
Raising:
As part of balance adjustments accompanying the introduction of instanced raids, and in order to improve the usability of Return as a mode of transport, Raise and Resurrect will receive changes to their effects, as well as the rank at which they are learned. New Raise spells will also be introduced.
Raise II -new-
Restore the breath of life, reviving a KO’d target. Weakness and Brink of Death effects last for 1 minute.
- Learned: Conjurer, Rank 38
- Cast Time: 10 sec.
- Recast Time: 2.5 min.
- MP Cost: 186
- Exclusive to conjurer.
Rebirth -new-
Restore the breath of life, reviving a KO’d target. Target suffers no Weakness or Brink of Death effects.
- Learned: Conjurer, Rank 50
- Cast Time: 10 sec.
- Recast Time: 30 min.
- MP Cost: 231
- Exclusive to conjurer.
But if "Conjurer/White Mage" does indeed fill the Role of "Healer/Crowd Control", who will fill Role #3 of Damage Dealer/Nuker??
Conjurer still has a supermajority (more than 75%) of the nuking spells. Therefore if nothing else changes, Role #3also seems to be filled by Conjurer ... specifically a Conjurer with a Black Mage Job overlay.
And lets not forget that Conjurer is also the Class that has a majority (more than 50%) of the buffing spells. That means that it fills the need of Yoshida-san's #5 Role of "Buffer/Crowd Control" too.
So going into 1.18, we will have one Class that can fulfill 3 ot of 5 of the party Roles that Yoshida-san presented to us.
--------------------
Now granted Conjurers do have one fatal flaw in that their Area of Effect doesn't reach very far. Having the most powerful healing, buffing, and nuking spells won't do a character mush good if they can't hit the target. But still having the best/majority of spells in every category on a single Class seems ... broken.
In all honesty, I believe that Yoshida-san is actually testing the broken-ness of how the abilities and spells are currently distributed, by implementing instanced dungeons with specific parameters for entry (i.e. specific level & specific number of party member requirements). I think these instanced dungeons are serving a dual purpose. Sure they're content. But they're also laboratories ... rat mazes if you will.
If Yoshida-san states that Jobs are primarily for party use, then implements content that can only be accessed by parties, but pushes off implementing Jobs until 2 patches after that party content ... I'd say he's using the results from the content to help him build/balance the Jobs.
