I think what a paladin truly is can be debatable.

Some games portrait them as holy warriors charged with the defense of the church. Other games see them as a symbol of justice that stand for the downtrodden and act as a police force for those whom cannot defend themselves.

You might just have a case of tunnel vision with a warcraftian or D&D paladin.

Paladin is derived from a word that literally means 'Palace Guard', and in classical literature, has come to mean 'chivalrous knight'. Paladins in XIV are Sultansworn, or basically, palace guards who are also chivalrous knights.

    Stop whining.

I already know what Paladin is derived from. Also, stop whining? Should nobody EVER critique/want something to change that they're dissatisfied with? I'm sorry you disagree with me, and some of the others in this thread, but if I see something I'm unhappy with, and clearly others are, too, then I'm going to say something. It probably won't change anything, but I will still say it.

Rather than debating on what it means to be a "Paladin", I would offer the class is bland and one dimensional. Regardless of what your preferred "flavor" of paladin might be, the current class is, imo boring.

So SE should redo Paladin, work all the balancing out with it for not only itself, but the jobs and content around it, which is a ton of work to do, so you can have a little bit of white magic? Okay.

It doesn't have to be overpowered white magic. I hardly think a 2-3 minute cooldown on a couple of unique Paladin spells would be game-changing.

The only thing that really stands out to define Paladin in FFXIV is Hallowed Ground, which is calling back to the generally accepted faith mechanic of the standard fantasy Paladin.

They've proven they can do Summoner several different ways while keeping the core mechanics (the summons) in tact. I see no reason that Paladin for this game in particular had to be so different.
Summoner's aren't really intact they are the most removed from their core mechanic in FFXIV

I really wouldn't worry too much about it. We'll probably see paladin specific skills like holy succor and aegis boon (or something similar) come back at the next level cap increase. For the moment you'll just have to wait it out.

You would be surprised on how the smallest change can potentially affect how a job is played and how it works with the jobs around it greatly.

Well it seems to me that the main thing what some people think that defines a Paladin is the skill set it has. For me? It's that sexy ass Armour I wear that dose it for me. lol.

but yeah White Magic on PLD I never seem to be useful, well, useful when I first have like cure, I find it useful to have it at at first but later on as my HP just went sha-boom! Cure just wasn't cutting for me but I shouldn't worry because I'm a Tank, not a healer, not a Hybrid, but a pure solid Tank. I still use Stone Skin but that is the only WHM skill I use.

And let's not forget, we're only LV50 and so there is still more skills for us to learn as we get a level Cap increase.
