Paladins need to actually be Paladins.

Right now they're more like...well, nothing, really. Giving a job a bunch of defensive cooldowns doesn't make them a Paladin. A sword and shield doesn't make them a Paladin, either.

They need magic. Holy magic, to be specific, that's actually USEFUL. We can use Protect, Cure 1, Raise, and Stoneskin. The only one that's really useful ever is Stoneskin. You'd never use Protect or Cure 1 during battle, and Raise is only out of combat.

Come on, these aren't Paladins. -.- We should at least get some kind of awesome self-heal with a 90-120 second cooldown, or something, and maybe a unique party-wide heal with a longer cooldown (doesn't have to be a full heal like Benediction, but something decent). Also, there are plenty of undead/evil creatures in the game. Why not some attacks that do extra damage to them?

Gladiator/Paladin was my first 50, and I played it for a good 2-3 months, and the fact that they don't even feel the slightest bit like a Paladin just helped turn me away from the job.

Most of the attacks/skills just seem so generic and not very Paladin-esque at all.

Someone is going to come into your thread telling you that in japanese locale, paladin is actually just 'knight' and not having magic is fine because of that. Probably going to mention that past games uses knight too.

Oh wait..I just did it huh?

I have noticed this as well.

I think the problem is that the JP developers misunderstand exactly what a Paladin is supposed to be. I won't say that Paladin needs to have magic, but it at least needs to have religious overtones. Show me a church in the story. Give me a Job story where my GLA learns the power of faith.

The Warrior story is teaching your character how to harness Rage. Why isn't Paladin doing something similar? Warrior gets a whole new resource to work with called Wrath. Paladin gets what exactly?

It's like there's a huge portion of the concept missing from the current Paladin.

That certainly didn't stop them from doing it right in FFXI. Or in FFIV, even though Cecil's magic wasn't really all that useful.

Cecil's magic was decent as a backup. I mean, at least he had Cure II and Esuna, lol.

Or it's because the word Paladin has a much more generic meaning and SE is free to design it this way if they wish. What you think a Paladin should be isn't 100% absolute.

They turned SMN into a DoT whore with a gigapet for a summon. I'd consider Paladin a success comparatively.

If this wasn't the Final Fantasy series, maybe.

If every game in the series, regardless of similarities wasn't meant to be different, maybe. Not to mention, people think that having white magic means you must be able to heal in some way, and they actually sort of addressed that. People just don't like the way they did it.
