I personally guess the IGN and Gamespot may not interested in FFXIV until they really see the change made in 1.18 and 1.19, or even until the launch of PS3 version. Because FFXIV is not really revived now (from the objective point of view).

But when it is ready, I believe SQEX NA branch will do any efforts to get media exposure.

The game has been officially "launched" I don't see them doing re-reviews, unless they relaunch this with a new name which isn't going to happen so there just gonna to have to live with the first impression they made.

With Other MMO's on the horizon I would be very surprised if they decided to take a second look at this.

Well they have to have someone out here. Im always having to order games from the US that is from Square Enix. =/

FFXIV Dev Team are all JP division guys, so only time you will see interviews from the US is if the US gaming site/magazine company goes to Japan to interview them (during convention shows/etc) OR when the JP guys comes down here like they did in XI for fan fest and E3 and whatever game conventions hosted in the US. Same with other countries.

I think for translations/etc for in game data there may be US division involvement but they will only have as much info as they were given from the HQ in Japan, so pretty much limited and they may not be authorized to release the info although they may have due to marketing purposes for the game. Probably if you check the staff roll in the game they have list of US division companies that helps with parts of the game.

I would like a FFXIV Fan Fest but pretty sure that is going to be pretty much dead right now, so probably like a year or 6 month after the PS3 release. Next big game convention is probably TGS 2011 in Japan around October. Other than that is if FFXIV dev team has to visit US SE offices like he did last time.

Concerning Materia crafting, can someone delve into more information on that in this thread?

Unfortunately the only new information of materia crafting is about the balancing.
Other details are already known in the official announcements and rep comments.

Overhaul of crafting and Materia and Job system are plan to go live on 1.19 so we have to wait until September (worst case).

While I do believe that first impressions are everything, I wouldn't be surprised to see some reviews when FFXIV hits the PS3. It's not unheard of to revisit a title when it hits a new platform.

But if they're really committed to making reviewers take a second look, they may need to incorporate an expansion or something officially new that forces the issue.

Didn't reps respond about Roegadyn (Galka!) female and Mi'qote male? Put those 2 new race + new area + hair styles + some golden subligar and people will take that second look for sure. Specially the golden subligar.

I am very surprised that NA players describe Bard in FFXI as "princess job", which is spontaneously be the same with JP players

Many JP players are also complaining about the "buff bot" role of RDM and BRD (along with utsusemi and haste) since this two job name poped up from the magazine interview. Hoping Matsui, the lead battle planner, will not repeat the same way as FFXI.

I love your posts, Kristina! Since I don't speak a word of Japanese, I enjoy that you can help share what the JP players are thinking.

Until the players' polls, the official forums and the channels of communication opened up, I think there was a misconception that what they wanted and what we wanted out of the game was very different. I find it fascinating when we share the same opinion.

If that PS3 launch is ANYTIME soon, then don't count on an expansion to help it along. They are having a hard enough time getting nessicary changes out the door in a decent amount of time as it is. Im certain they havent been building an expansions worth of content and such on the side.

If they are smart they wont bother with the ps3 version until 1) combat is finalized 2) jobs system in place 3) transports are up (bird/airship) 4) decent bit of endgame content available 5) re-design of zones are done.

releasing before those things are out would be a sure-fire death ticket for the game. If one of the drastic things like the world or combat or classes are still changing and the ps3 players get their hands on it, the first thing they will think is that they are paying for a beta.

SE of North America is just here for translations/distributing for the NA reason unless there's something else I'm missing. Since I never heard of the NA branch of a JP company making their own game, except with Mystic Quest.

NIS America handles a few of their own games. (Very few.)
