Revelations from Second Coil of Bahamut

    Spoilers, clearly...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YXN...ature=youtu.be

Nael Van Darnus, under the helm, appears to be a female Highlander Hyur with long white hair and the trademark Garlean bindi. This is amusing because her emotes and motions in 1.0 were said to be more consistent with Elezen characters. The scene would seem to indicate that she has experienced final death, but one can never be so certain...

To be fair, it isn't a bindi. they say it's a third eye. Also, he wouldn't have been an elezen OR a highlander, because he/she is a Garlean.

A FC member of mine thinks that Nael's current form probably resembles Bradamante, the warrior maiden he named his gunhalberd after. Nael van Darnus was a man, and Nael deus Darnus talks about him as one.

Neal Van Darnus was a he and didn't "turn into a she". He is dead. This is an incarnation

I'm not trying to be rude here but is it that hard to freaking read text?

The text and what I see would seem to be in disagreement. The avatar of Louisoix refers to "The White Raven" as "her," though he is also an aetheric manifestation created by Bahamut. Furthermore, I said that s/he APPEARED to be female. Not that there was some gender switch. Though, you must admit that there seems to be at least some evidence that SHE may have been trying to hide HER gender beneath the armor. Do you not trust what your eyes perceive? And, yes, you are quite rude. Is there a reason that you feel so strongly about the discrepancy between how she was referred to and how she now appears to us? Clearly, she looks very much, in this incarnation, to be presented using a Highlander Female character model. If what we are shown is meant to be the depiction of a man, then it wouldn't be the first time that SE pulled this. Kuja most definitely had this going on. Sephiroth also did to a certain extent. And at the risk of pissing you right the fuck off, Amy, I do not believe we can be certain that she was a man even in her mortal incarnation. She never denied that this incarnation was an inaccurate approximation of the likeness of Nael Van Darnus.

The theory about the aetheric incarnation "Nael Deus Darnus" being Bradamante of legend is interesting.

Yes, it is a third eye. A bindi is representative of a third eye. Potayto, potahto...

And as for Garlean being a Hyur "tribe" separate from the Highlanders and Midlanders? We've never been told this to be the case or not to be the case. The Hyur currently in Eorzea migrated by sea if I recall correctly. It is entirely possible that both clans of Hyur, the Garleans, and any others out there originated from the same place.

Thanks for the link to the final scene, dragonflie.

The whole thing is very confusing, and the cutscene text doesn't help any since it switches genders. Regardless of what we perceive, though, I'm pretty sure Nael considered himself male, and that's all that really matters.

I think people are going to have increasingly strong reactions towards this notion because it's getting old that people keep missing the part where all of the characters seem to explicitly state that Bahamut's copies are imperfect and Darnus was a dude as if they're trying to prevent people from making this mistaken assumption.

Louisoix isn't much support because Bahamut made both of these aetheric images. It'd be like if Bahamut was the head of HR and he thought your birthday was in April, so he sent you a birthday card (Nael Deus Darnus) and sent everyone in the company a newsletter with you mentioned on a list of this month's birthdays (Louisoix). The same mistake appears in the essence of each because they have the same creator.

I'm glad to see that they finally resolved what those lasers were doing--I always suspected that that was their purpose. Still, I guess this also tells us the entire purpose of the Binding Coil, though the name seems a little inappropriate now.

Depends on how you see the word "binding." If you look at it as the "story" is looking at it, the term is meant to be a prison. But from what's happening, the term actually means to put together.
