So many wise players on these forums.

A class called Fencer was datamined from 1.0 years ago. So if arc/smn/sch is anything to go by they'd probably add Fencer which then branches off into Red Mage (healer or dps with support abilities like bard?) and Rune Fencer (tank if Rune Fencer was a tank in FFXI). Other classes that were datamined were Assassin which will probably be the class that branches into Thief and Ninja, Enforcer (used club/mace), Flayer (supposedly a whip), Berserker (great sword if I remember right), Samurai and I can't remember the rest if there are any I missed.

I would love for Flayer to be a new class and for it to develop into Blue Mage. Blue Mage with whip like Quistis from FFVIII. Plus Soulflayers were Blue Mages gone out of control in XI.
Flayer -> BLU Confirmed!!!!!1!

I see this in every thread on the subject and, while not wanting to quash any dreams, there's really no precedent for Thief (Job). You can't even use XI as a precedent for it as thief (class) was one of the 6 starting jobs. That is it's available right off the bat. In no game that I've played was thief an unlocked class, more it was a class used to unlock other classes. If past games are any clue, as they have been thus far, it's thief/Ninja and maybe a second Job that's not been hinted yet. Why make thief instead of Thief? Well, it's pretty simple. What would you call the class? Pickpocket? Blackjack (historically speaking blackjacks weren't a hand in a card game)? Cutpurse? But those are all just other ways to say thief (100g says the French name will be cutpurse anyway). Not saying I'm right, but if the name of the class winds up thief, don't be too shocked.

I think we can speculate as much as we like. SE will make it a Tank job or a DD job. There is nothing we can do about it. I'll happy with a Ninja or a Thief... regardless. lol

But these boards are all about the speculation and who speculates better than someone else!
Here's my addition!
THF will be DPS (in the way that BRD is a "DPS"). THF will bring the trait LCK (luck) to the party (affecting LB etc.). In addition, luck will increase the rate of rare drops (go go atma). This benefit does not stack (omg, the qq!!).
additional qqs: omg SE, DPS can never get a pt. Please make parties 9 man groups.
Server: Sargatanas || Main Job: Scholar || Chocobo: Bonchon

Except for the fact that Warrior, White Mage and Black Mage were all jobs from the get-go in FFXI, if we're going by your example, and they're not classes in FFXIV.
If it is released it'll likely follow the theme of previous Final Fantasy jobs that aren't used much or don't feature in other games of the series. (conjurer from FFIII, Gladiator from FFV.) Personally I think Assassin from FF Tactics sounds like a likely option.

Yup I finished the story on the 1st day. I mean at some point I'm sure they would at it. But Musketeer will be before any other DPS. And then SE will have to add a Class that isn't a DPS for balance. So I guess it would be ok to speculate what THF would be, But I only see it as a DPS.
