Lol marauder makes more sense XD
Anyways if you guys read my first post you'd see I was against the idea of a thief tank so no need for /lolthread LOL :P I just wanted to say it might end up being a surprise possibility. The bottom line is if ninja tank happened in XI, it's a minor possibility here.

No, THF should not be Tank, nor should Samurai.

Ninja in FFXi was not intened to be Tank, but due to players usage, SE MADE them tank by taking awau their dps gear and replacing with tank gears.

If Ninja was added to FFXIV, it would be heavily overpowered, because everything in this game has a set pattern(unlike ffxi, which made Ninja tanks to be only used by few).

I hope they introduce a new class from FF roster.

Maybe Rune Fencer type of Tanks, enhancing buff class with moderate dps, moderate defence and self buff. Kinda like SCH fused with Galadiator.

It made more sense in V1 where they were a bunch of pirates and a hybrid tank/AOE-DD. Now they don't maraud, but Overpowerers just sounds silly.

Well, to offset a high HP pool and excellent mitigation, they could make NIN have the worst enmity generation of all the tanks. Would you rather take a traditional tank and let the DPS go all out, or an evasion tank and the DPS have to hold back (and think of all the DPS checks that suddenly get a lot harder).

It managed this by use of two spells: Utsusemi: Ichi and Ni that created 'shadows'. Each shadow took a hit that would have hit the Ninja and disappeared. Ichi created 2 shadows and ni created 3. Ni shadows could overwrite Ichi, but not visa versa. The trick to tanking as Ninja was managing your shadows so you rarely got hit (especially because getting hit with your shadows down could interrupt your casting of the next set, while maintaining enmity abilities.

Eventually, SE gave in and gave Nin some enmity+ gear, but it was an effective tank anyway for single mobs that hit slowly, but hard.

As for the Thief class itself, it's role in XI was enmity-management. It could take hate from other party members (with merits). Also, it could plant hate on others (and doing so increased the Thief's damage)
Utsu: Ichi gave 3 shadows and Ni gave 4 (3 for /NIN), and Thief's role was Treasure Hunter whore in XI. Even back when Trick Attack was used for hate, you generally had 2H melee using it to better effect on mobs past level 55 or so (At that point, viper bite was worthless and other DD got their "big" WS (Gekko, Guillo, Penta, etc) and dagger WS was downright terri-bad on Gods)

    Small nitpicking, but yeah.

I don't think an evasion tank can be balanced though, it's too reliant on RNG in most ways I imagine. That being said, I feel confident THF will be a DD job (Not class, for real), and NIN.. I do hope it's a DD, but there is precedent for it being a tank, as you said.

That being said, I really hope they introduce some tank classes (Samurai and Berserker would fit nicely, although Berserker already had many abilities that fit it rolled into Warrior). Maybe Rune Knight? I could see Beastmaster being made into a fun tank.

    TO ME, COURIER CARRIE!

Yeah, they will heal party members with their kunai blades and ninjutsu bombs.

In a typical party, the ninja will run around attacking players to heal them, sometimes throw a ninjutsu bomb for AoE heal.

I want berserker a la FFV. Engage target and all control is taken from you. Go make a cup of tea or something.

Not exactly confirmed.. All but though.

Finish story (2.2) and it will make sense.

Well the 2.2 Story is just the Introduction of the Scout class (Dual Dagger class) since Yoshi-P wanted to get a class that goes into Thief and/or Ninja into the game as he mentioned months ago when he mentioned Musketeer and Melee Mage (class goes into Red Mage) with Scout.

As of now we are only given the Lore and a few combat style and skills shown through the cutscene being Scout Class is a Diciple of War class from Doma.
