There is absolutely nothing wrong with average gamers, the problem is the negative connotation you are associating it with and categorizing the term with their choice of hardware. If an original Game Boy user plays Pokemon for 100 hrs straight to "Catch them All", would that be considered an 'average' gamer to you because the Game Boy Advance is already out? By your terms, you belittled a person's point of view because of their hardware and degraded them to an 'average' gamer. It's just a ridiculous point of view, period. I didn't say anything was wrong with an average gamer, you did indirectly.

No, there was nothing negative about my post on average gamers. I understand that most gamers don't give a crap about the stuff enthusiasts care about. If anything, there are more people who wouldn't understand why I and others spend so much money on hardware, and are more likely to belittle me for doing so when they can get hardware that "look as good" for a much lower price. You can already see plenty of it here. But that's the difference between the average gamer and the enthusiast. Like anything that involves hobbyists and casual users, there is a big divide in mentality between those who think "good enough" and those who want all the latest stuff (just look at headphones and the audiophiles whom 99.9% of headphone users don't understand). So unless you're one of the very few who do it for an actual hobby, you're the average user. You're simply looking for any negative connotation behind that term.

Fact of the matter is, there is a distinct difference in mid-range and high-end. Regardless of price-performance ratio, bang-for-buck, whatever, this is a fact. So you can get a piece of hardware that can play the game at max settings for $400. That's wonderful! I am absolutely thrilled that people get to experience the game the way PC gamers do, because I also play on PS3 a lot and it sucks so bad that I can't wait to buy a PS4 for myself. But it's not high-end.

I'm amazed someone in this thread is equating the ability to make or own a better PC with being a better than average gamer.

The two are completely separate skill sets.

A fantastic performance car mechanic and owner is a great mechanic. They are not automatically considered to be even a average race car driver.

Play your FPS arms race meta game. Just dont fool yourself into thinking it makes you a gamer of any note until you prove yourself able to use the equipment well.
