I meant more like "Red Mage will be more of the same crap we had in XI instead of being melee capable and/or a magic fencer". Remember, I hated refresh-botting, I hated being stuck with "support" as my only viable role in a party, I hated not being able to live up to the Red Mage concept in content that mattered, and I hated seeing my rapier collect dust.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Well you're crazy, people want roles. They want you to be their refresh bot, their heal bot, their <whatever> bot.I meant more like "Red Mage will be more of the same crap we had in XI instead of being melee capable and/or a magic fencer". I, on the other hand, agree with you.
As it's been mentioned that it is just an example (in the other translation thread), I've gone back to "wait and see" mode for the moment.
Either way, why is everyone getting so hyped up about bard? I think bard and I think Leliana from Dragon Age (awesome), that bard character from the Romancing SaGa remake (good one too), and the princess job from FFXI (erm...).

I am very surprised that NA players describe Bard in FFXI as "princess job", which is spontaneously be the same with JP playersAs it's been mentioned that it is just an example (in the other translation thread), I've gone back to "wait and see" mode for the moment.

Many JP players are also complaining about the "buff bot" role of RDM and BRD (along with utsusemi and haste) since this two job name poped up from the magazine interview. Hoping Matsui, the lead battle planner, will not repeat the same way as FFXI.
But anyway, PT need healer and buffer, at the end someone have to do this.
So I only hope they can make RDM and BRD more interesting.

Buffing can be a group effort if you actually design the jobs and classes to act accordingly rather than leaving the buffing to one poor soul. That was bad design in XI and should not be repeated. That's also why I am more worried about Matsui having anything to do with battle design of this game over everyone's fear of Yoshida's lack of experience.
On a side note, my hatred for bard classes comes from the fact that group performance is made or broken by their presence when they are designed as strict buffbots. It is kind of why I hope them to be an offshoot of a dagger class (since bards to belong to the rogue archetype).

I love your posts, Kristina! Since I don't speak a word of Japanese, I enjoy that you can help share what the JP players are thinking.I am very surprised that NA players describe Bard in FFXI as "princess job", which is spontaneously be the same with JP players

Until the players' polls, the official forums and the channels of communication opened up, I think there was a misconception that what they wanted and what we wanted out of the game was very different. I find it fascinating when we share the same opinion.![]()
