Assuming you've completed the 2.2 scenario, I'm not sure how you couldn't get the idea of Thief...
During the two major cutscenes with Thancred and Yugiri they mention that the two "share similar styles". At one point, Thancred even switches his style to something similar to her own. Thancred was raised in the "mysterious underground" (read: thieves) guild in Limsa and Yugiri is very clearly going with them to teach them her ways while learning theirs before *as she states* offering her services of training the people of Eorzea. It seems pretty clear to me the path they're taking, the only question is how the layout of the class>job/job will be. Personally, I think they'll have a base class that leads to THF/NIN but this is wildly speculatory and only because Thancred and Yugiri seem to make easy and effective leads for the two respective jobs.
People also keep talking about Musketeer as the 3rd class for Limsa that will even the unequal distribution of classes. Thought: Maybe the plan is to add musketeer and the new thf/nin class for Limsa, and one class each to the other city-states in the expansion, resulting in an even 4 classes per city-state and leaving room for possibly 2dps/1heal/1tank...
My theory on the matter of classes/jobs…
Thief-> Ninja (job), req: 30 THF + 15 ARC [DPS, shuriken/ACTUAL daggers for weapons, status effect attacks galore]
Gladiator-> Samurai (job), req: 30 GLA + 15 ARC [TANK, Katana/Greatswords for weapons, with additional ranged moves]
Gladiator-> Dark Knight (job), req: 30 GLA + 15 BLM [TANK, finally introducing Darkside ability]
Marauder-> Corsair (job), req: 15 MRD + 30 ARC [TANK, finally introducing ranged tank role]
its beyond me how anyone can think ninja its clearly thf-=>assassin
Keep in mind that Musketeer was conceived when the other "additional" classes were nothing more than vague concepts for the future. It appears that the original concept was to have two DoW classes and one DoM class in each city. Musketeer and Arcanist weren't ready by the 1.0 launch date. Adding Musketeer would get things back up to the original idea. But beyond that? Who knows? It's possible that FFXIV will take a page from FFXI and allow Musketeer as a job available to new characters, while only making other new jobs available to those who've played the game a little.People also keep talking about Musketeer as the 3rd class for Limsa that will even the unequal distribution of classes. I have a feeling, that given the samurai and DK jobs will likely be using 2h weapons, that the sub jobs will have lancer in them. Perhaps something like lancer 30/pug 15 for samurai and mara30/ lancer 15 for dk.My theory on the matter of classes/jobs…

Now, yes they can change their mind, but I do think that people will try to hold Yoshi P and SE accountable to this statement. I think he brought up a good point about people already having a bunch of 50s. There are plenty of people in my FC that already have every class to 50.
I remember seeing the characters kick ass with their dual knives in the cutscenes, and thinking "Why is this not a freaking class!!?? I need this so much!!!" lol
I like pie.
Don't forget about the "Advanced jobs system" Yoship was talking about at some point. The way we get jobs ( or even class) later on, might be different than the way we get them now
Well its obvious, have the soul crystal reduce the amount of damage bonus it gets from stats a tad, or make all the BRD only weapons deal less damage in general with a nerf. Make it so the songs don't effect the bard as much as others would be another one.How do you lower DPS output of Bard considering it's just Archer with a soul crystal? That lowers Ranger DPS. Not to mention it would play like Archer with 5-10 more job skills. Maybe if Ranger was based off a different class from Bard altogether, then it could work.
Crossbow only class maybe. Slower attack speed, stronger shots? I don't know. I don't think Ranger should be introduced at all given that Musketeer will happen.
