    Porting in and porting out can easily be changed. Doesn't have to be changed for existing areas but they could easily make a new open world area that's "too dangerous" for the npcs to set up a camp and aetheryte there.

    As for the others that don't understand what the OP means by open world content for some reason, he's essentially asking for a open world dungeon. An open world area or areas that's filled with monsters you can't just casually walk by without having to worry about being killed with some difficult boss monsters that spawn every now and then that actually drops something useful or desirable.

    Chalk it up to ps3 limitations, thats why you can barely make it 5 minutes without a loading screen and the zones are so small. What youre looking for is an open world sandbox. Im eagerly awaiting ArcheAge and EQN

    It's been said before repeatedly and I'll say it again: there is open-world content - if you're looking for FFXI-style NM hunting that's what FATEs are now. Then there's the treasure-map hunting, the daily beastmen quests, etc etc. And what's stopping you going out and just exploring the world (which I used to do in FFXI)? Oh, but because there's no shinies waiting at the end in this people are not interested and claim the 'no-open-world content card'.

    Even ignoring all that and using another 'claim' by detractors of the current system who claim FFXIV is nothing but a 'lobby server' for instanced content, remember how in FFXI most players simply sat around idle in Jeuno or Aht Urhgan Whitegate for hours doing nothing while they waited for a party to form to do something trivial such as an exp party or a story quest? What's the difference to sitting in Revenant's Toll waiting for a Duty Finder party to fill here in ARR? Absolutely nothing.

    And before you pass judgement this is actually what the player community wanted - content that was not sole-claimable by one person/party, and dungeons that are instanced and separate from the main game (the old player polls Yoshi-P did not long after he took over as Producer that confirm this are still floating around, I'll try and find them and post them here). If you think that sucks, well, you'll just have to live with it, as that's democracy for you.

    There is a lot of open world content you have to do with the new relic quest. First off you have to do fates for atmas, then for the book part there are several kill various monsters in the open world, doing leve quests, and more fates.

    This sounds like a personal problem to me. I didn't play FFXI in the Sky era, but I did play other Asian MMOs with open world dungeons, and what I remember about it is:

    1. shouting in town for ages (anywhere from 30mins to 5 hours, depending) just to find a party, then possibly waiting longer to fill the party if the right classes weren't shouting in town
    2. fighting with other parties for spawns/camps
    3. having herds of mobs trained on you and your whole party wiped (both intentionally and unintentionally), and nobody in the area would stop what they were doing to raise you, so your whole party had to revive in town and start over
    4. hardly any talking, apart from discussion of what area to go to and what drops people are looking for, with only fairly rare exceptions
    5. one person needs to leave? group disbands, the other players all resume shouting in town (facepalm).

    And honestly I've had no trouble meeting people in this game. I've met some great people in guildhests and dungeons, even in Party Finder and standing around at various aetherytes. You're just not trying.

    The perfect regular open area for me would be like the road between the tiny town in North Shroud with the aetherythe to Hysthmill taking the other road where the knights are, that's a harder trip even for 50's, you can get links on your way and find lots of aggressive mobs, if the areas had that difficulty would feel a lot different, the op didn't say about the teleports but I would love if SE reduced the number of aetherythes, would be enough getting 1 or 2 per general zone (Black shroud, La Noscea, Thanalan) somewhere in the middle so you have to use the maps a bit more, I really like the look of every zone and its a waste not having a good use for those.

    A sky area would be awesome, especially if they made it a hard open area, where you need to be careful and preferably with a party, they could add fates there that could have NM's like chimera that could drop some items to pop a big bad ass NM

    I would want to see more than one party hunting in the same area. Fighting for the spot could be a viable choice with a nice mixture between instances and open dungeons where ppl could choose different rooms . Areas where every FC goes to hunt choosing the party setup they want and not be stuck with 4-8 players.
