Guys just so you know. A romance option between your character and an npc could very well be implemented when they eventually put the Path companions back into the game. Imo the path companions are the best chance for these features happening.
There's a thread that discusses many possible features that could possibly be added to the path companion system, and romance is popular topic there.

If we get more people to talk about it, then we have a better chance of reaching the devs' ear, and hopefully getting a response!

I agree that this would be a good thing. But I don't think the options are mutually exclusive. I want to learn more, and develop relationships, with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. New NPC relationships are also great, but I'd like them to let us explore friendships and romances with their main characters too.

Eh. Only problem with a true implementation of this kind of system would be either it would be exclusively heterosexual, cutting out anyone who has a preference for the same gender, or it would be all-inclusive and start getting attacked by those who are against that kind of equality.

Though as a compromise, how about a friendship system? Maybe, in a patch far, far away, such a friendship system could allow certain NPCs to tag along as companions? Just a thought.

Star Wars the Old Republic started out as 100% heterosexual. However it has now expanded to include homosexual options as well. It was also to my knowledge the first MMO that prides itself on taking itself seriously to include such a system. And it included the system right from launch. It was also probably partially the inspiration for yesterdays April Fools Day prank.

I thought it was real due to the fact that ffxi have it but once you high enough with a npc you can summon them to fight with you. So when reading this i was hmm could it lead up too that but when i saw garuda i'm like oh nvm it's a joke.

With that logic, even seeing Tataru should have been a dead give away that it was a joke. She's a bloody coward.

Legit for a main title? Yeah sure. FF7/9/10 had something similar, although only for joke content.

Legit for a Visual Novel? Yeah of course, for some reason Otaku love that creepy stuff.

Legit for FFXIV? Yeah, no.

Why not? It's one of the better features in Star Wars the Old Republic, and has been an institutionalized part of Electronic Arts' Bioware Division's gaming development plans since around 2007. So why wouldn't it be legit for Final Fantasy XIV to use? Especially when Final Fantasy XI has practically already used it?

I am more disturbed by the fact that despite their gender differences, Alphinaud and Alisaie are for all intents identical twins. How are we supposed to take it that someone is attracted to someone who has a body double of the opposite gender to themselves? That's just weird.

I mean its not so weird in the real world where identical twins of opposite genders eventually grow up and one develops a noticeable difference in their appearance to the other twin... but in these two's cases... they may never grow up. Or at least not anytime soon.

Also, I will point out that anyone who was attracted to Rikku from Final Fantasy X is officially guilty of the same crime that you are accusing people who are attracted to the Padjal, Alphinaud and Alisaie of being guilty of. Rikku was 15 years old at the start of Final Fantasy X, and 17 in Final Fantasy X-2. Yes you just heard me correctly. In the United States she would be considered Jailbait. Yet the Japanese producers of Final Fantasy X thought it was perfectly fine to sexualize her in such a blatant manner as she was. And you know what? In Japan, Pedophilia Laws are actually quite different from what they are in the United States. Children between the Ages of 12 and 17 can engage in sexual relations with each other so long as it is done in mutual consent. That is why she was objectified in such a manner, because they were selling to that market.

Just a run down of the more notable Genkai girls since 7: Yuffie was 16 in the original FFVII, Selphie was 17, Eiko was 6 (but I really don't want to count her in this list), Penelo was 16, Vanille looks 19 but is actually 619 so kind of defies this trope, Prishe looks maybe 11, but is effectively ageless (much like a Padjal), oh and lets not forget an honorable mention Rydia. She looks like a 20 year old at the end of her game, but is actually only 7 years old. How much jailbait do you fans of Final Fantasy really want?

In fact strictly speaking I think Lulu and Quistis Trepe are the only Female Leads in the history of the franchise (prior to MMO's) who are 18 years of age or older... I could be wrong though? And no, I don't count Edea as a female lead.

EDIT: Er, actually just checked, Faris Scherwiz and Lenna Tycoon also qualify as over 18... And what the heck? Did they remove the word count limit?

They're Elezen, and his sister hasn't really put on chest or hip development, so I would guess quite young, despite their precocious mental development.
