I always wanted to date Garuda. Stuff like that's the whole point of playing Japanese games.

Oh relax. If it *were* implemented, it *would* be decent writing. That's the whole point of why this is a good idea. It would give depth to the NPC characters themselves and depth to your emotional attachment to them, both as a reader of the story and as a character in the story. It's an april fools joke because it directly compromises the integrity of both the characters and the story. Playing "ring around my tail" with Y'shtola would make me quickly lose respect not only for her but Final Fantasy XIV and the developers as well.
You're free to rule 34 FFXIV to your hearts content on the internet...But please, for the sake of even halfway decent writing, leave the Visual Novel crap out of Final Fantasy.
RPG romance is really mainstream right now. It's a part of storytelling. Right off the top of my head, I can think way back to when they did it in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. They did the same thing in Knights of the Old Republic II, and in all the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games. It added depth to the story, not masturbation material. On the JRPG side, Persona 3 and 4 did this same sort of idea to masterful effect--they even had this system where, at a certain point in the NPC relationship, the quests branch into 'friends' and 'lovers' paths. Yes, that is Visual Novel type content, but there's no reason it can't be in an MMORPG either. People above have pointed out that The Old Republic did it as well.
I get that you don't want trashy and silly that disrespects the characters. I agree with you there. But I'd love if they did implement it and took it seriously. I think it'd be great for the story and characters. In-game romance doesn't have to equate to waifuism masturbation material.

Not to mention that Garlean soldier in Castrum Centri. You know, the guy who made that collage does understand that a Tataru route would involve some sort of violent confrontation with Wedge. I'd probably do the "Wedge tries to get you in as the middleman in telling Tataru how he feels about her but Tataru ends up falling for you and you never bother to tell Wedge until the inevitable reveal, followed by Wedge walking up to you and punching you in the face after finding out" thing. Would give the story a bitter-sweet twist, but meh. >.>;![]()
I will admit, at a short glance I was fooled until I read it twice. I'm disappointed that it's an April Fools joke. Especially since it was posted on March 31st. I would love to see a system like this implemented. I just don't see it in this degree due to the fact that they would most likely gender lock it which is rather stupid. One of the things I love most about the Persona games (3 and 4) is the Social Links. Interacting with the NPCs around you and getting to know them more as they slowly open up to you. This would be a great way to develop more depth to some of the characters as well as give some interesting dialog changes in the main storyline if you have completed them much like the slight changes in text if you are a legacy character or not.
Long story short. I support the "Favour" System! Please look forward to it!
I'd romance Merlwyb in a heartbeat! Why S-E, why must you crush my romancing dreams! D:

Alright, I admit that romancing the main story npcs would be a bit of a stretch. Despite Thancred.
But..I would LOVE a quest line that tells me more about their background. Something a la the serpent generals story in FFXI.
Especially Thancred, the rake that he is. You know he's got a story and a half.
Although I would love a way to woo certain NPCs (Minfilia <3) and have future dialogue reflect my choices here, it will likely never happen. Mainly because these are central characters and SE likely wouldn't want to have to hassle with writing several different scenarios each patch based off what you decided to do with your relationships. Second, SE would likely not include anything for the LGBT community and we would have non-stop complaining on the board because of it (heck, they went nuts when they couldn't exchange candy with the same sex....).
I could see them adding an NPC in the future that you could woo, and although it would be cool, it likely wouldn't be worth it due to their LGBT policy and how loud the LGBT community can be now about being excluded.

I might have cared...
What I'm annoyed about is that the joke showed some eye-candy for the guys. What about the girls who play your game SE? Are we not worthy enough to be fooled? No pictures of Thancred or Alphinaud? I hate feeling like the minority.

Wait Alphinaud....? I sincerely hope you're under 12 to consider Alphinaud eye candy....I might have cared...
