Actually very disappointed this is just a Fool's Day joke, as I've wanted a system like this since I began playing. Just being able to do "daily" type quests for or give gifts to my favorite NPCs would really make my play time even more enjoyable.
Hopefully they actually give thought to implementing something similar to this in the future. (And without a lot of stupid restrictions)

ROFL first all the Yoshidas and now this. Props, SE.
I've made a thread that requests something similar to what you're asking for. However, we need more posts in it to have any hope of it reaching the devs. So if you really want something like this to happen, join the discussion!Actually very disappointed this is just a Fool's Day joke, as I've wanted a system like this since I began playing. Well, even presuming they did decide to take this beyond an April Fool's prank, you're going to have to strike a balance between stupid restrictions and genericness.
On the generic end of the spectrum, you could woo any NPC, but they'd all give bland, identical responses, because SE simply doesn't have the time or manpower to give personalities to every NPC in the game. (Aw, but the west gate Wood Wailer at Quarrymill is so dreamy!!!)
On the stupid restrictions side, if you limit the selection to just the main NPCs in the game (heads of state, Scions, etc), it gives more room for meaningful romantic dialogue, but that's a bummer for folks that are interested in NPCs that didn't "make the cut" (Redolent Rose is just so dapper! He's head of the Weaver's Guild, why isn't he in the Favour system?)
And for people pining after Primals, dating NPCs that only show up in cutscenes or as enemies introduces a whole host of new problems. I gotta say, though, Titan may be ugly as sin, but his papa bear protectiveness of his Kobold people is pretty adorable if you can look past the homocidal rage. :3
If this was a single player game, yeah - I've yet to see an MMO that used this in a serious fashion, even PSO2's system was more of a 'fun little when your friend is not online" type of system and if the person is the opposite gender from you they'll 'fall for you' in a sense.

Guys...
Guys... but really... can this be a thing?
I want this to be a thing.
Joke or not. I want this. . .
You are literally the only person in my time on this planet and in MMORPGs, I have seen, that has defined the roleplaying aspect of an MMORPG, as your role as tank, dps, healer, etc. I had to force that to make sense to me.
You're taking the word "Role" and twisting it to fit your own definition. So should we call XIV, a Massively Multiplayer Online, Pick Dps, Healer, or Tank, Playing Game? I do love me some MMOPDHTPG's. Because if we don't differentiate it somehow. Battlefield is an RPG.
Maybe I should ask my girlfriend if she's up for some role play. Then punch her in the face and tell her I picked DPS. (Remember kids, domestic violence is not funny)
you are the only one twisting things out of proportion. it's okay if you don't understand. it's no worries. it's not even important.

Final Fantasy, the first one, was an RPG. You didn't have class roles that needed to be adhered to. If I made a party of nothing but fighters would it be a Fighter Playing Game? You take on the role of the heroes of light, not what class they are. XIV, an MMORPG, follows the exact same vein. You take on the role of a so called, "Hero of Light," to save the world or something.
Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG yet it has no defined roles. So is it not an MMORPG? Literally every MMORPG I've played has put you, the player, in the role of your character, to take part in a predetermined story, or to create your own story. You create a sort of different self and live another life in a different world. Some people take it more seriously than others, but that's what it is.
y)
correct and correct. these were exactly a couple of the angles i was trying to describe. i am just not good at explaining things. and tend to cause much miscommunication.
either way... again it really is not important. :/
