I freaking love 2.2. So much to do, even grinding, finally open world content to see more of the world. More bosses, more dungeons, more equipment, and especially wicked looking ones for paladin<3 I freaking love it. I love the RNG on fates, I would hate to know to do 1000 per area, because sometimes it is one, sometimes it is 100 sometimes it is 1000, I prefer to not know and just gain gil and up my chocobo rank up as he helps me

On point with the main complaint of atma, I really don't see where the idea that it needs to be done comes from. Far as I understand, there is other gear that's actually even more powerful. Why pursue the upgradable weapon with full force if it doesn't interest you? Yes you will be able to upgrade it more with each patch, but presumably they will also have stronger gear from dungeons, crafting, and primal fights.

I feel like people are putting far too much focus on it.
Don't bring logic to an internet forum, its frowned upon.

Everyone wants to rush this grind just so they can get their weapon before everyone else, woo hoo so elite! People were pouting hours after the patch went live, and they will find something to cry about in every patch/expansion that comes out if it isn't exactly what they want. If people are unsubbing already, those same people were going to unsub anyway. Some will come back, some will just keep jumping to different MMOs.

Wanted to take the time and state that I agree with OP about the lack of response to the fate grind however I agree that it is a necessary evil to slow down progression.

Main points though is if you are sick of fate grinding. Stop do something else and come back to it when you feel like it. Ultimately this is a game, there is no rush to get everything right away. Why can't it be 1 attempt at an Atma a day say 1-2 hours and if you get any Atma great! if not tomorrow. The difference in how you approach this is what's causing the dissatisfaction. Although, this is where I agree that SE should find ways to address it with the numerous suggestions on the forums instead of stating nothing.

Unless you want to get off the relic weapon boat entirely, you're probably going to want to finish it before the next tier comes out - sure, the current content will become easier then, but you'll be stuck grinding to upgrade your weapon to an outdated level and not getting started on the next one (which hopefully won't have this sort of thing again), so you're going to be behind for a long time. There are certainly reasons to want to keep following the relic quest. It's clear that SE have ongoing plans for it and have talked about making it customisable etc. and other than the Atma grinding it doesn't require RNG luck. Apart from that, other weapons come and go, but your relic staying and growing with you is a nice constant.

Of course, the next tier isn't about to come out next week, so why aren't I focusing on Leviathan EX for shorter-term goals? The reason why I want to get started on mine soon is mythology. It's going to require a lot of mythology to buy the books to upgrade it, and I'm already almost capped. I don't really have anything else I want to spend mythology on by now, so the longer I spend at the mythology cap without an Atma weapon to be spending it on, the more mythology I'm wasting buying random upgrades for classes I don't really play. It doesn't help that people I know already have their Atma weapons and are getting started on all of this, making me feel like I'm getting left behind.

I don't mind that it requires a lot of mythology and other varied work to upgrade. I'm not expecting it to be handed to me within a few days, and that's a long-term goal I can work towards. The Atma grinding, however, is just a long boring slog where the goal is nowhere to be seen until you finally stumble upon it in relief.

Back in MY day, you had to camp 1 hour spawns for a 10% chance of the mob spawning with a 5% chance of that item dropping from that mob. And that was for an illusion mask.

I like the idea of the Atma grind, even though I haven't yet started. The only gripe I have is that it ISN'T competitive with the most powerful weapon in the game. I would prefer something that is like:

    - Atma grind is your start, and you get something useless for finishing (i.e. current system), but its something that will identify you as having finished it (perfect!)
    - Anima is your 2nd step, and it increases your Relic to something fairly competitive, but there are still better weapons out there(again, good job)
    - Zodiac is your final step, and it requires you to complete some sort of end-game content that is NOT coil. Something like Chimera/Hydra, but at least archetype specific (caster dps, physical dps, tank, healer) so there is some variety and sense of ownership of the encounter. It should be able to be beaten by 8 players, and repeatable upon failure, but it should be about as hard as T5 with less of a learning curve and more of a gear check. Like basically if you aren't i89 you are dead. This would upgrade your Relic to at least on par with High Allagan.

There is a lot of hope that my preference is still possible, especially if they announce a way to make your weapon i110/i115 in 2.25 - my only gripe, and I think the underlying reason other people are QQing is that it is not clear that this long Relic quest will end up reaching competitive levels versus... basically versus High Allagan. I think we can assume that it will, as YoshiP seemed to be alluding to that in notes.

I just think that people have no faith/patience in the dev team to make sure that the work they put it is rewarded in the long run, so you get this gut/knee-jerk reactions. Justified or not.

    Thread too long, didn't read.

This note at the end made it pointless for me to continue. Prepare to have your mind blown.

Guess I'll throw in my two cents as well. 2.2 is great in nearly every way. It's obvious you're digging in for the long haul now and are preparing content that will last us longer. Item distribution feels better and more systems are tied together for lasting appeal. Over all it is quite good. The only gripe I have is the Atma situation. After over 13+ hours of killing fates since 2.2 launched I've obtained a grand total of 0 Atma's. My roommate has killed 2 fates total since 2.2 released and he has 2 Atma's. This utterly disproportionate rate of advancement between two players is completely unacceptable. It's 100% RNG and it makes the entire experience feel like a giant waste of time. Perhaps I'd feel better if I wasn't running level 4-14 fates using only the most basic of my abilities and getting a whopping 35-50 GC seals for it. It makes the whole time farming feel like it's a waste and that I should be off doing something else entirely. That is NOT what you want people thinking when they play this game.
