What really hurts is the prices... I wanted to put my tank in full Foestriker gear... just doing the legs/feet nearly cost me 14k. I already had the gear. Just those damn prisms. Plus there's so many different ones. One piece needs leatherwork, another clothwork. I can't just bulk buy. I have to buy each individual one which can cost up to 10k just for one prism.

...I should probably left up a crafting job, to be honest. Save me a hell of a lot of money.

This is the "first week" price, where the crafters set the price very high and then drop it slow until the first get sell. Then keep at this price.
The cost to craft the prisms is around 300 - 400 gil (200 for the clean prism + 2 common crafting mats of the crafter class like 2 toad leathers for a leatherworker prism(the price here depending on the server).

Those prisms were selling for upwards of 14K wach last night....

And THAT is why it was retarded to get crafters involved in something like this. No way will I pay 50-100K to use this new system. SE and the crafters of Eorzea can keep it.

You can't pay those ridiculous prices and then complain. They'll never go down unless people are patient.

I'm glad someone else has opened this thread since that's what I was trying to say during the last two weeks in other forum threads about vanity. There was no point in making it so complicated.
I also hate the fact that when the effect of glamour is turned off it shows only the standard color of the gear you "glamoured". My blue-dyed vanya robe (which now looks like the White Mage iLVL55 robe) is dark green when it is worn by my SCH.

A vanity tab unique to each job would have been perfect. Instead, SE decided to make a convoluted mess that no one can even use right now unless they're willing to line the pockets of greedy crafters. I'm very disappointed in the way this was implemented. There's literally nothing good about the way they did it at all (unless you're a crafter raking in the gil, I suppose.....)

If you ever play Age of Conan, this is precisely how it works. It's a seprate vanity tab, that has an identical layout of slots, and each one with a tick box, with an overal tickbox right at the top. So you had absolute maximum control slot by slot, and still the option to remove/hide cloaks/helms on top of it.

I think the OP raises amazing points and I agree with them, especially the one about a Grade 5 prism not being retroactive for lower lvls. It seems very intentional to make that area of the market (those particular set of materials) important again. I think it's also cheeky that while they are "Master" recipes, they are only lvl 30 in actuality. ;x They're not lvl 50, they're lvl 30 like the dyes. Despite all that, I'm fairly satisifed with it, like the OP. It *could* have been worse I think.

Lily: Are you afraid of my kiss?
Jack: I'm afraid you'll break my heart.
Lily: Then still your heart... You are dear to me as life itself.

And this is why I'm now completely 100% no longer excited for these vanity slots. So much unnecessary time/work/gil spent for something that should really be very simple.

I had no problem with glamours being a level 50 quest, but the rest of it is totally unnecessary.

I will just end up sticking with whatever my character is wearing. Very sad glamour system, IMO.

I agree that this whole thing seems needlessly complicated. I have two crafts above level 30: Carpenter and Culinarian. I can make dyes and some housing items. I thought that would be sufficient for glamour prisms, too. But it doesn't even come close. I was very excited about glamours going into this patch, but I didn't even bother doing the quest once my friends told me how it works.

Just one question (because I haven't even bothered to do the glamour quest yet). When you are trying to determine what job of prism you need (leathercrafter, armor, weaver) what item do you look at? Do you look at the item you're changing the appearance OF or the item you're changing the appearance TO?

The only thing I would probably bother with glamouring (if I ever change my mind) would be the scholar gear to Acolyte or the black mage to Battlemage.
