I don't think they meant that... at the moment people don't have to have an active account to post on the forums. People need only sign up for an account and they can talk on the forums, so I took the 'trolls' comment as getting rid of the people on these forums that don't own the game, don't play the game and some people that have multi-accounts that they use to post on when one gets banned. It has been an issue, and I think this is SE's way of making sure that people who play or have an account can be heard without those other instances arising.

I don't have an issue with it due to the fact that I am who I am. On here, in the game, in real life... I say what I need to say and it's as simple as that. If they don't like what I have to say or hate me because they don't agree with my opinion, that can't be helped. If that changes how they feel about me in game, and can hold me to such a standard despite... well it's probably someone who I don't want to help or be involved with anyway. If they want someone who is nice, kinda, helpful, willing to be a friend and can appreciate me for who I am, despite the fact that they might not agree with my opinion on here, then that is a person I want to be friends with.

Any attempt to destroy internet anonymity has my thumbs up to be honest. It has been commonplace for too long now that forum trolls, board bashers, and every other variation of an e-thug get to hide behind their avatar.

The internet isn't what it was 15 years ago (yeah bet that made you feel old didn't it? ), if it was down to me, anyone connecting to the internet would have their name and location live on screen all the time, you would have no option to change your avatar, and you would be locked out of anything that would allow you to hide yourself in any way.

My system would require the world to be run by some kind of cyber government, with a representative stationed outside every house and apartment, confirming that they are not trying to hide themselves from the world.

I am also a supporter of the device we have been trying to invent that allows you to perform a physical punch in the face through the internet. We are still working on the part of the device that allows your screen to magically turn into a hand, form a fist and then knock your teeth out. So far we have only managed to make it display this:

    The research continues...

+1!!!! Sorry that made me laugh... even though it's sad and true!

A lot of people take for granted the simple fact that people can be whoever they want to be online. Some people use this as a way to have a almost split personality of 'I'm going to act like a total *** on this forum because no one knows who I am, they can't connect me to anything else or my character etc' but then in rl or the game sometimes they are really nice... or they are (unfortunately) that way in RL as well.

I don't see why people are so afraid to show their character... I mean it's still not their RL information so people still don't know who they are. The only people who really have anything to fear by this is if they are in fact rude and nasty all the time on the forums... and well, that's their issue and even that may not matter.

That .gif is one I save for only the most special of occasions, as the little girls face and actions are just excellent. She really does encapsulate the feelings I have when someone is trolling, or using their anonymity as a weapon. If it was down to me, they would have an arctic lorry dropped on their house for being a douchebag.

On a serious note though, most european countries now have moderation of internet usage, and also require software to be installed on the accessing computer just to use their service providers. Within 10 years, we might be looking at retinal scanned logins with active online personas, and no option to hide yourself.

I will never understand why people respond with "but it's on the internet, I have a right to be anonymous" when in the real world, if you run into the whitehouse wearing a head to toe panda costume, begain tickling the president, and then dry humping the first lady, you gonna get messed up in half a second flat, no matter how much the costume conceals your identity.

The same should be true for the internet. You want to spam "U mad bro" and "trollfase.jpeg" at every chance you get, then you can also expect to be missing your front teeth in the near future.

Very true... unfortunately in this world there is no such thing as anonymous, because someone out there knows exactly who you are. Could be your friends, family, the cable company that give you your 'net. SE knows who we all are since we have to use the same info to get on here as we do lodestone. They have our name, address, phone number...

Also I <3'ed your .gif, it was very funny and put a smile on my face. I needed that since I had a kinda bad day and I got hurt lol.

While I do agree with John Gabriel's Greater Internet F(Online Disinhibition)wad Theory and think removing anonymity would cut down on trolls, I disagree for reasons I consider slightly more important.

Or perhaps vandalizing their house and car, killing their cat, and making continued death threats against them?

I'm not sure where you're from, how old you are, or what your sense of history is.

I'm assuming you've never lived in a police state.

Anonymity is important. I'm sick of trolls too and I think Anonymous has overstepped its bounds, but if that's the only problem you see with the world then you're living in an ivory tower.

Take away anonymity and you take away the ability for people to disagree with you. If your only way to cope with people who disagree with you is to punch them in the face or set up secret police to monitor everyone in their homes, there are words for that....

Good thing I can just link a mule to the forums.

    Me~ow! ~_^

    LOL!

Actually that made me laugh, and no.

What I was implying was the fact that my personality and opinions are the same here, and I wouldn't say anything here that I wouldn't be afraid to say in RL in front of people. Therefore I don't have issues with people knowing my character name/world/ranks... lol which is obvious since I have it on my sig anyway.

If your smart mouth wants it cake and to eat it too, then it should be prepared to face the ramifications of it's actions. There are too many people in this world that take advantage of being anonymous in a bad way

(also while we are at this point, you are making a cracking attempt at twisting my words around tonight, you really must have it in for me)

and as such have created a very uncomfortable environment for all to be a part of. If you believe in your words, and are true to them, then you have no worry as you aren't trolling, you are being truthful.

If your only function on internet forums is to bring displeasure to others through the need to post constant annoyances, then you should be prepared to get a slap in the face, because you deserve one. Enough times have I told people to their faces, (and I am not a giant muscular jock, im an average build, medium height guy with a little podge in my belly) that if you continue in this way, you might find yourself looking up at the sky with blood running out your nose, as you are being rude, and abnoxious, and you are old enough to be responsible for your own actions.

I am not saying violence is the counter for all of the internets problems, but if your only function is to be a troll, as the quoted poster fits into the role of, then you should be ready to accept a truck being dropped on you, because you are not worth anything more.

And yes, I would love to live in a police state, might get some of the more annoying people out there (ala you) out of my way
