Why is everyone assuming that SE is losing money and if we don't pay more then they'll go under and will need to shutdown the whole game?

As I understand, ARR has exceeded their expectations and is bringing more profit than what they had in mind.

Just because they're turning a profit now doesn't mean they will continue to do so in the foreseeable future and it also doesn't mean that they have to stop finding methods to generate more profits.

SE is a corporation, and like all other for profit corporations, profits are ultimately the main motivation.

I'd gladly pay 20 a month with promises of never P2W.

I doubt FFXIV will go down the route of P2W, subscriptions are still their core revenue generation and they have no need as of yet to aggressively adopt a F2P cash shop model for revenue generation.

I'll never understand why people are "fine" with being ripped off. You're already getting mounts, pets, and vanity items in content updates because of the subscription you're paying. Why would anyone in their right mind go "I'm already paying you for the content you're already giving me but you know what? I think I have too much money lingering in my wallet please take out some of the content you were already planning to give me and charge me extra for it."

I'd rather this game stay at a price where a little babysitting or lawn mowing money can take care of the fee. For 25$ a month, may as well just buy a new game every month.

For optional services like Fantasia, (Re)Naming cards, server transfer and optional retainers I do not mind an aditional fee because I do not need them right now.
If I do in the future, I'll consider paying a little money for it as these are optional services.
This'll be cheaper than paying extra on top of your subscription each month unless you have a reason to change name/appearance/server every month.

If they however start adding clothing, minions, mounts and other vanity items which have nothing to do with adding an additional service whatsoever, then it's time to speak with my voice and wallet.
(This excluding extras obtained through buying actual merchandise like the Dalamud and Bahamut minions.)

I have to agree. I really want the Dalamud minion.. However, since it is one of a marketing incentive to incentivise players further to buy their hard work (which is the soundtrack), I don't mind it that much. I might get the soundtrack as well for the Bahamut minion and solely the Steel Reason OST. I do hope that this practice isn't encouraged though..

I already pay enough to prevent cash-shop pay-per-item bull-crap. I'm happy paying for a retainer seperately because I recognise that it is axtra sever stress and can affect the game in a greater way than just 1 item would. But I'm not cool with paying for server transfers which I'm sure in FFXI could be bought with in-game funds instead, AND came with items for length of sub like what is curently given to all players.

They have been doing this for a longer time, quite a bit of merchandise already comes with extra codes which unlocks little vanity extras in FFXI too like the orchestrion with the Piano collections and the Gobby and crab gavels which you got when buying a set of pens, moogle cap with a keychain, etc.
But here you buy the merchandise and get the vanity item as a little bonus/thank you for buying this product.
I don't mind that, because I paid money for something I can actually hold in my hands and which will be in my posession until I throw it out, sell it or kick the bucket.

What SE is planning to put into the store right now are things that I personally consider to be services so I do not mind paying a little extra for it if I happen to be in need for it.

And trust me, there will be many walking with me if that happens and SE knows that.

I bought the 1.0 CE.
I didn't play it for longer than 2 weeks though, and restarted completely at the 2.0 release even though my original character also still exists.

So any means of generating profit is justified because they're a corporation?

Then why not make each extra retainer for $50 a month?
