SE - Default 3rd Retainer before Fees

Free? Wait a minute, why am I paying $10/month then? If this is a microtransaction free game then I am spending $10 monthly for nothing!

Can you show me where you bought your initial 2 retainers on the website? I'm looking at the mog station and I don't see any options that state:

"First 2 retainers = x$"

As I'm pretty sure when I went to rehire my retainers it cost neither gil nor real money. If you're paying $10 for retainers and not to access FFXIV, I think you got scammed, sorry to say.

Joke´s aside... if managing my image stack get´s so painfull, I will adjust my playing on this, focusing on raiding and PvE, and just ignore all this stuff like crafting, and especially seasonal events which reward you with a slotwaster...

The retainer system is annyoing - by now I have a Retainer for Crafting stuff - completely Full, and one for "later Use" Stuff, like Twink-Level-Gear, Materia,... otherwise I could not manage in my Head where i put what, resulting in multiple calls on the bell,...

getting a third only increases the amount to manage my retainers, or getting a wastebin for 2$ where i put all that "never to Use" Stuff like Primae Weapons (like in another Thread where the OP shows us his Inventory full of Primae Weapons) which are useless after obtaining your Relic/Rowena Weapon...

It doesnt say anywhere that 10$ is giving me access to all the dungeons and raids nor does it say i'll have access to all the crafting recipes... man this 10$ fee is going to get bigger and bigger following your train of thought.

However, since you love to reach - When you pay a sub for a P2P game you are paying to access the service, did you not read the terms? Your 2 retainers came with that subscription fee, them charging for additional retainers didn't come with that subscription fee. Using your logic, you should be entitled to expansion packs and add-ons for free simply because you pay $10. Heck, I have nothing against you personally, it's just the train of thought that seems to ignore your sub simply means you get to log in for as long as the service remains, anything else is up to SE's discretion.

So again, where does the mog station say you paid $10 purely for 2 retainers? I don't recall the game asking me to pay gil or money to access my retainers. You played since 1.0 or you were one of the many who quit the game after a week or two - You shouldn't be this surprised about them charging for additional retainers. It's been the plan since 2010.

So when people say they paid $10 for their retainers, that means they got ripped because your $10 is supposed to be to access the service of FFXIV, otherwise there could be some serious lawsuits if SE is taking your money and not delivering their promise (you can log into FFXIV.)

This issue = a bad precedent. The people defending it just don't get it. If they're willing to charge for bag space, then eventually, they'll charge for extra hair styles. And then special colored dyes. And then the ability to teleport to certain special locations. And then the ability to raise the weekly tome total past 450, etc. And if you're ok with this now, you have no right to complain later when they start nickle and diming you for everything you do.

WoW already set the precedent of microtransactions in a P2P MMO if you want to get technical - Yoshi openly admits he wants to follow WoW in almost every way imagainable. SE stated numerous times in 3 years they'll charge additional fees if you want more retainers.

You choose either Entry ($12), or Basic ($14), if you choose Basic, you're paying more to access more (You gain more characters per world). SE is going to be charging us for Fantasia potions, which are one time use items which is actually a lot worse than an additional retainer which has a lasting value to you if you simply just pay the $2 extra a month, since what if you use your potion and decide you wanted to do something else or messed up? You're going to keep buying the potions over and over and dumping more money into SE's lap in the long run.

And if you're ok with this now, you have no right to complain later when they start nickle and diming you for everything you do.

It's far too late - People decided to buy "Early access" and "Alpha" games for $20+ ontop of DLC, the gaming market has long been ruined. Funnily enough, SE actually is one of the worse "nickle and dime" companies when it comes to their social/mobile games which is why people are dreading the Mana revival.

Sure the 3rd retainer might come handy, but is in no way needed for having a better gaming experience.

It seems SE should just forget the extra retainers. 2 retainers are enough for the next 5 years.
This way nobody feel to be forced to buy a retainer if someone else buy one.

And if you are a hoarder and even collect stuff you can buy from a NPC for less than 50 gil, then there is still the option to buy a second account.

There is more involved than customer opinions on a forum. Industry current and past practices and the fact they are a privately held company with shareholders, for example.

Consumer feedback does have an impact, however it is still one factor of many. Consumer demand is also another and has a heavy influence on a service becoming a common practice.

There is a reason why I don't try and change players' opinions here. It represents a small part of them. A silent majority can easily create the demand for this retainer service or vice versa.
