Really XI can't happen in the current market

I think it actually could. It would have an entire slice of costumers that no other game at the moment cater to. Even FFXI is casual as crazy now.

The loot system may not be as desirable

I kind of like the sky gods loot system. Even if you did not get gear that time, usually some kind of crafting material dropped. That way, you at least walked away with some gil at the end.

The best thing about old XI though. It was harder finding crappy players after level 20, then it is finding them at 50 here.
