I'll take ten minutes over wipes and frustration any day.

As a WHM I really have no problem doing either, but I like it when tanks either heir on the side of caution or simply want a chill run. I'm there to have fun, I don't ever let myself feel rushed playing a game. It's supposed to be fun.

So one mob at a time even though I know we're capable of more is fine by me...

Not just tanks, but people in general. There's already a lot of players who are terrified of even opening the PF, some even of the DF, simply because of the incredible attitude that others have. I don't use the PF unless I'm looking for 1 or 2 random people, and I'll rarely (I've joined a group once, maybe twice) join in a group. I'm playing to have fun, not be subjected to the crap that usually comes with it. It also annoys me when people bail almost immediately because of one wipe. Until it looks like the group has hit a brick wall, I'll always keep fighting.

I guess these players are looking for a group to carry them through. Not necessarily because they aren't skilled enough themselves, but because they're only interested in the loot. I enjoy an MMO for the player interaction, cooperation and shared goals; my reward comes from seeing someone who is ecstatic that someone actually stuck it out for them.

I'm definitely one of the minority in that regard, as is anyone else who does the same. Pick your friends, make an LS/FC, and just hang around with them.

oh yes i am one of those people who leave even after 1 wipe if i found the party sucks. I have wiped enough in my learning phase and if i wanted to learn how to play a new job i go DF not a PF... and i refused to party with noobs, cos where were they when i am learning the fight!.... i rather wait for 2hrs cos in the meantime i can go out, eat food, watch a movie, read the forums, porn, sex, sleep so many things to do!!!! rather than frustrating myself with a noob

Tanking is actually relatively fun in this game, what kills the enthusiasm is people's expectations of the tank; we're required to know fights inside out, we have to mark exactly what mobs require what being done to them (and even then most people just don't follow marks), we have to accommodate for other peoples error when **** hits the fan and to top it all off when things go wrong, we're the first port of call when it comes to questioning the composition of the party. I'm not saying tanks are blameless however, it just quite rare that it's solely down to the ability or purely hinging on the performance of the tank.

And don't even get me started on CT.

while you have a point, with the DF, I still dont see why you wouldn't want to at least teach someone else if they happen to be greener than you. Understandably nobody wants the responsibility of doing such but how are newer players going to get better if the veterans dont want to waste time with them? I wouldn't want to know what kind of community the servers would become if more people adopted your attitude.

It can be rough on tanks out in the wild. It's hard not to regurgitate advice like, "Have a thick skin!" But, you have to. Early, friendly conversation in a dungeon has worked wonders for me. We're all human and at some point when you make a mistake and cause a wipe, a little personality can really help smooth things over. If not, like others have said, take a walk- leave that group and find yourself another. Take a breather and go into another group fresh with your fast queue timer. As a tank you're expected to set the pace, if you want to take it a little slower, they can put up. No sweat off your back. Just, don't let the control go to your head.

I got called noob tank by a MNK who i seem to be spamming only Bootshine + Twin snake + Demolish combo over over again because i stopped attacking that add who is going to die in 1 or 2 hits. I find these situation funny, and if i am feeling evil, intentionally letting the adds aggro him and watch him panick.

I find this very true, people seem to blame you less if you have a bit of conversations beforehand. Like if you accidentally over pulled a bit and barely made through it. Just mention something like my bad after the encounter and continue on.

If you are worried about being undergeared you can put it on the backburner for a while until you have obtained some better gear via tokens. I did have some trouble and grief from players upon reaching lv50, but now that I am geared up and experienced it is very rewarding and I am making paladin my main class. It is unfortunate that people cause intimidation but once you are over the initial difficulties it becomes awesome and worth it.
