Well it could be possible it's not the actual server hardware but the server software being the cause of all this, cuz I really remember reading somewhere SE bought new servers spending tons of money on XIV servers on a JP gaming magazine/online site; can't find the damn article lol. Like others said if SE didn't rely too much on server side processing and use more client side it would probably help this game out a lot but probably SE trying to fight RMT started this issue or something similar to that.

Only RMT's left on servers are the dumb ones who don't know whats going on with XIV right now, or the smart ones who hopes one day FFXIV gets fixed and they can start selling all the gil in real money. And hope at same time when SE releases the big patch to completely change this game to ban all RMT at same time to surprise them, since I noticed the STF isn't doing much on the RMT's still in game even after reporting over and over...

You'd be surprised how well built "old" servers are. The problems stem from the interface (software), not the hardware.

-Servers
-Engine
-Content
-Battle
-Story
