Why I don't like the idea of paying for extra retainers.

Considering Square Enix past MMO FFXI, even now, they don't have much Optional services outside of Server Transfers/Extra Characters.

When it comes to MMOs and you are in a P2P setup, You really need to pick a choose critically (if any) what you can and cannot add as an optional service.

FFXI does not have a cash shop because they tried adding additional services via mini-expansions. Very few people bought them. Then, they tried reskinning vanilla areas for their new expansion with vanity rewards. That was unpopular as well. It's not that FFXI didn't try to half-do things and take advantage of the player-base for easy cash. The players simply refused to accept them.

Mini-expansions (add-ons)/Expansions are content put into the game. I don't know much about Seekers so I can't comment on that. However, the way your describing it, they never had a "true" cash shop but they tried to make money else where.

SE said the mini-expansions were their first foray into microstransactions. And I was referring to Wings of the Goddess. That expansion didn't even have decent side grades.

If SE did say this, I like that kind of "microtransaction" as it adds content to the game ( even though it's not a Major Expansion, I'll take a mini expansion lol). I like Wings of the Goddess not my favorite though CoP is the best imho.

Yes! The WotG storyline was very good. We actually already have all three of FFXI's mini-expansions in FFXIV. The Moggle Mog fight is the same as the final battle in A Moogle's Kupo d'état, Shantotto came here from Vanadiel during A Shantotto's Ascension. She actually left her footprint all over the place. She was a FATE, the BLM stone is named after her, etc. It was also nice to see the SCH FFXI questline here in the form of the THM guild's story. (Though I kind of think FFXI did it better ^^

People's objections to the mini-expansions though, was they seemed like basic updates to the game which SE put a price tag on. Having seen the way it was all incorporated into FF14 without a hitch, I'm inclined to agree.
