Why I don't like the idea of paying for extra retainers.

Not all of his points are correct. Extra retainers via extra sub cost are part of the original sub design. You even get one more free retainer then the original design. You may not like it. You may not agree with it but this is and always was part of the game. You already have more free inventory space then the game was designed around. Allow me to restate: I'd have no problem with this if the retainers were ONLY for additional storage. I have a problem with this because additional retainers gives you an advantage in obtaining items that can only be obtained through ventures.

I think you may not have read the patch notes about the venture system.

Let me elaborate: According to the notes on this feature, you choose the class of your retainer and it levels up. You can change the class, but you'll start back at level 1 if you do. Two retainers means you can have only 2 classes at max level available for ventures. One War/magic, one gatherer maybe. So, you can get some of the items available only through the venture system.

However, if I pay to have 4 retainers total, that means I can have one war/magic, one miner, one botanist and one fisher. Once I get them all to level 50, I'll have an immediate advantage over anyone who doesn't pay for the extra retainers. I can get any type of item available through the venture system without having to change class and re-level my retainer.

Again, if it was ONLY storage, I wouldn't even care. BUT, they are allowing you to pay for a feature that will allow you to obtain unique items at a higher/faster rate than the people who don't pay extra. This has no place in a subscription game.

So level an alt for the 2 extra retainers and have the exact same capabilities, just without the convenience of it being on a single character, and with more venture tokens easily obtainable.

There are ways to get around this, they are just offering a more convenient way to those same ends.

Yes, there are ways to get around this, and I am currently leveling an alt in order to do so. However, I can do this because I have the Legacy subscription, so it's costing me nothing at all. For people on the sub that only gives them one character, they will HAVE to pay extra, one way or another, to get the same advantage. It's wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong in a subscription game.

Again: If you are against this. Do NOT purchase even a single retainer. Do NOT rationalize that there are other people who won't pay in protest. If you're thinking that, then so is everyone else and the reality will be that everyone buys a retainer thinking it won't matter. It WILL matter.

Think very, very carefully about the message you want to send to SE about this.

The basis of the game is being able to do everything on one character. Requiring a second character to have the same advantages of people with deeper pockets is not.

I already have 6 retainers on one server.The venture system is not going to be profitable long just because of people like me who already have many retainers. The market will get flooded, and boom everything is back like it was before 2.2. You think SE is forcing you to pay more money. They are not but it is their job to entice you to pay more. You act like they committed a crime for that, but it's no different then Norton making new software every year as to outdate their old software. We live in a world were this is happening every day, but I don't see people protesting it in any mass form. I read the venture patch notes and unlike you realize there are bigger problems in the world then someone paying $2 more dollars a month for entertainment. If you don't like it then keep your money in your wallet. I think what most people are mad about is the majority of the gaming community doesn't agree with their view on the subject.

Vote with your wallet but don't cry if you get out voted by people who see this who matter in a different light then you.

I bet you thought the rewards from maps would be worthless after a few weeks too. Yet there are still items worth over 500,000 gil on my server. So we already have evidence that these unique items could be very rare and valuable.

The storage argument makes no sense. For one, I'd be willing to bet a large number of people make use of the "only one character" sub thing, which means there is a lot of storage space going "unused" (for lack of a better word). The number of people who make 8 characters is going to be significantly smaller than the number of people who don't. And second, the storage requirements for two retainers are significantly smaller than the storage requirements for an entire character. There is simply no way two retainers are worth $2 (or is it 2 each for $4?) additional to the subscription, which can add up to hundreds of dollars if you play long enough.

This is nothing but a needless cash grab.

So, when they add a new class they can make us pay 2$/month to increase the actual number of classes that our character can have, right? After all, if you want to level the new one you could just start a new character...

I find it silly that people assume that the items only retainers can hunt for you could possibly be so massively important that everyone who doesn't have at least 8 retainers will totally miss out on some insanely amazing items.
