Would you be upset if the game went offline?

The main arguement to take the servers down while the game develops is simple

1) people who want the game to fail, cuz this is what it will cause to happen, they hide behind other reasons usualy or make up wild stories about how itl actualy save the game

2) people who want to play the game, but not right now, and dont want other people to get ahead of them while they wait for the game to be acceptable to them

Just wait it out a bit and you will be able to see what they are going to do themselves. At the end of their fiscal year is when the suits will decide whether it's even worth trying to salvage or that the game is simply hemorrhaging too much money and to shut it down. SE has fairly deep pockets, but even they will drop it before it gets that bad. Face it, they are still making money on box sales. Like it or not, this is a business, our feelings as fans of the franchise are not taken into account, if they were, the team(s) put into place would be much further ahead with changes. I find it comical when someone said putting a skeleton team in place as if that isn't what is currently going on.

FINALLY! Yes this is exactly where my fears are based. IF the game had known more solid updating since it was taken over I wouldn't even be considering this, but this is not the reality. Reality is the game is still very much in limbo and an MMO cannot afford to stay like this forever.

And a skeleton team is FAR worse of a fate for any game then having it taken offline and reworked... :S It's called being put on life support and that's just not fun and we'll be able to count our dwindling community on two hands.

The fact is the cost of keeping servers up isnt the biggest cost, and it really isnt effecting development much. They need to test thier changes on a large scale eventually. The idea that server cost is huge in general isnt really justified. Look at private servers, many operate on minimal cost to the point that people can do it for free. The real cost of an MMO is development and they have to pay that no matter what as long as they dont scrap the game.

in an MMO closing servers is quitting. Most MMO that rehauled and has any measure of stability or success continued to stay open. Most that closed, never returned or failed on multiple reopenings, there is a reason for that.

If they are really starved for money they should just go p2p, sure they may lose 90% of the players left, but they would still make more money than now. Of course they may not get many of those people back. In all honesty what they have done is the best plan for them fiscally, the cost of operation is minimal. The only better plan they could do, is make the game f2p and use cash shops and other things while they build the game, and then offer a subscription fee that unlocks everything as they get more real content.

To answer the OPs question (as I couldnt be bothered to read everyone's responses) I would probably not be very pleased at first, but I'd get over it rather quickly. It just gives me one thing less to do during the week.
