being able to send mail to characters on the same account!

Seriously, all you folks at SE, you are bringing to this game lots of great new content and features that make this gem shine all the brighter, but the restrictions you have placed on in-game mail messages border on the ludicrous.

What is so dangerous about being allowed to send mail to our mates in our Free Companies without being on their friends' lists? What is so horrific about being able to send mail to other characters of our own on our own accounts on the same server?

Please, let us send mail to ourselves. Please, let us send mail to our Free Company mates without having to send a friend request to the several hundred characters on our FC Member List.

I heard someone speculate once that this ban on being able to send messages to the characters we have the greatest need in communicating with has something to do with making life difficult for the RMT trolls. I sincerely hope that is NOT the real reason -- if it is, then you folks at SE are FAILING MISERABLY at it. I can assure you that since none of my FC friends and none of my characters are RMT trolls that any efforts in this area are doomed to failure.

They may be looking at opening up a feature to pay to mail to your alts. If that happens you can look forward to more microtrans ahead.

I can see how SE might have a privacy concern about spammers getting their hands on public information that would allow them to harass us even more than they do. Assuming that limiting a player's mail recipients to their Friends list is because Friends lists are private. After all, all a spammer needs to do is right-click on someone that is in a FC, look at their FC's Profile and ... oh, wait. Free Company profiles do not give out member lists. Member lists of Free Companies are private to those in the company. So unless someone is selling lists of members of Companies ... well, even then, those would be kind of useless. And I doubt that the gil spammers will make much headway in the "Send out these mails to your FCmates and we will give you $1Mil gils totally hidden don't worry you won't get banned" department if SE started allowing us to mail people in our FCs. So much for that.

You might want to go check out the Lodestone its obviously something you don't use because it has a full and complete list of all members in your FC for the whole world to view.

Most game companies USED to have a few bank spaces that you could use to transfer between all chars on the account. I personally loved how Tera handled it and the one bank was used by all characters on the account. Other companies allow you to mail items to yourself and they charge depending on the game value of the item which makes it a good gold sink. Because FFXIV doesnt have an *account/individual* bank it makes it much more difficult to manage. The *retainers* are your bank but they have multiple duties so using the bank doesnt work therefore allowing us to MAIL OURSELVES SHOULD BE AN OPTION.

Personally as much as I like this game I find some of the restrictions incredibly annoying, no whispers in dungeons, not able to mail a person unless you are on their friendlist. Just two of the things that really reduce the SOCIAL side of this MMO.

The thing is that we don't have ANY microtransactions in FFXIV ... yet, to be sure ... but gutting the functionality of a principle aspect of the Internet since back in 1970 or so hardly seems the place to begin. Minions for fantasyBuck$? Outfits that have no combat or crafting use so it's not pay-to-win-with-fantasyBuck$? Sure ... what Pay2play game out there doesn't have pets and costumes as things you can buy?

The ability to talk to yourself or your guildies? That's a bit of a stretch.

Being able to buy more retainers? THAT I can see.

Agree, i doubt it would take much to allow us to add our alt characters to our friends list.

Of course as other have said they won't do this now because they expect us to pay for retainers.

Considering that you used to be able to do it... no, it wouldn't take much at all.

As for RMT, most games easily combat it by placing a miniscule fee on sending mail. So small in fact, that most people don't even notice it. But to an RMT that needs to send out thousands upon thousands of mail? It adds up quick, especially when tells are free.
