While we're on the topic of equipment lore, I've become curious about Thyrus. The quest says that it was a priceless heirloom of Gridania's Cant clan (assumed to be a Hyuran family, like the Senna, known for producing Padjal) until it was lost when A-Towa-Cant went missing a few decades ago. We're also told that it was crafted from petrified wood. However, color palette (white finish, gold trim, glowing blue light) is identical in every way to the garb of Allag healers. Even the teal glow of the Thyrus orb is identical to that of the Allagan Earrings of Healing...
How did the Cant clan come into possession of Thyrus?
It wasn't so long ago that Ishgardian nobles were parting with things priceless just for Allag coins, jewelry, and stones, and Gridania managed to hang on to this thing? I'd hoped to find a clue in the name, which led me to the Latin word thyrsus, from the Greek θύρσος (thursos). This refers to a fennel staff adorned with a pinecone that's associated with Dionysus. Some said the thyrsi to be wrapped in ivy and dripping with honey. That explains the visual aesthetic inspiration of Thyrus... but I've got nothing as to from where it might have come...
