Agree. I have seen this happen also.
I, personally, always say straight away I am new. I am the Healer. If I don't then all hell is gonna break loose!
9/10 everyone is very helpful, and in boss fights they accept a wipe is likely while I get the mechanics (tho not always, sometimes we breeze thru). I am always poliet back when advice is given, even when not asked for - had that plenty times.
However, I have had experience where I was berated (very early on in the game, Titan Normal) with foul language, and recently in a CT run that was horrendous for all, to be fair. I just replied with "yup" to begin with, or "kk"...but when the caps lock went on and the dude started on the Monk and other healer too, I just ignored all further comments...thought he was originaly just a peeved person asking for us to concentrate more...turns out he was a rager!
Sometimes language is the problem tho. I went into Denzils Darkhole the other day on roulette and had newbies with me. The Tank and Black Mage said they were new. I was very nice, gave some guidance and we burst forth. The Monk was silent, but was running ahead pulling things, going the wrong way, despite my directions. I asked had he been here before, he said yes.
I continued, repeating my instructions (the tank had trouble understanding the power of the crystal light), but we got through in the end. The Monk continued to be a little crazy, but got better as we went on. When we reached the end all 3 of them got the mapping.
So, the monk had not been here before, or at least not to the end. He was silent most of the run. I think he just didn't understand english. I guess, my bad for not checking his language, but if he'd just said: francais or whatever language...I could have done the translate or such like....
So, I think, sometimes people are scared/embaressed to fess up to being new, or not understanding mechanics because they'll get teased, like you say. But others maybe are too shy/not first language with the rest of the team....
Either way, I'd prefer it if they were open. I won't ever be mean (even if someone is being mean to me - I just ignore it), and will try to help them. Payback for all the fab people I have met who help me when I say: Erm...first time here. Handy tips appreciated!![]()
