    elitest/idiots that wont ask questions

I like this game a lot. I am no elitest but get called one when I ask someone who constantly screws up and wipes a group "are you ok? is there anything you didn't know about this dungeon?" I get snapped at by these players who think im trying to be a jerk. if you don't know a fight or mechanic before hand simply ask you group. I have a tolerance for people wanting to learn and get better. however I am beginning to have 0 tolerance for people who refuse to speak up and ask questions. I am starting to see the rage that the so called "elitests" have towards new players in a way. I even ask in coil groups or CT "if every one knows what to do? if you don't know please ask I will help." yet people still don't ask and that just starts to irk me in the wrong way. in short please ask about something. I have patience for people willing to ask for help before wiping the group several times over. with almost little to no patience left for the people who refuse to ask at all.

Its seen as condescending by the majority of the player base. I get that its not your intention but it is what it is.

I'll have to disagree with this. In my experiences I don't come across that many people who act like that. I usually find that it's either people with a childish attitude or a wannabe e-peen, which IMO is a minority.
Although just an observation, usually in my experiences casuals get the most butthurt about it which their natural response is to call people elitist.

Ignorance is not a problem. Everyone's ignorant of something at some point. Willful ignorance is stupidity.

I think sometimes trying to be helpful is met with negativity simply because of the attitudes people are used to from other players.

Example: I was once helping a Titan (hard) group and realized the other SMN was not using Fester. At all. Instead of berating him, I asked him why. He explained his reasoning and I tried to be polite and tell him why Fester was really useful, but the other people in the party immediately started teasing him the moment they realized he wasn't playing his job correctly. Of course, that made him even MORE insistent that he was right (dug his feet down into the ground when he got defensive). I was just trying to help but I may have come off looking like a jerk BECAUSE of the other people who spoke up at the time. I wonder if that summoner ever learned... I hope so, but I somehow doubt it if that was how he was treated the one time someone tried to give him advice.

Agree. I have seen this happen also.
I, personally, always say straight away I am new. I am the Healer. If I don't then all hell is gonna break loose!
9/10 everyone is very helpful, and in boss fights they accept a wipe is likely while I get the mechanics (tho not always, sometimes we breeze thru). I am always poliet back when advice is given, even when not asked for - had that plenty times.

However, I have had experience where I was berated (very early on in the game, Titan Normal) with foul language, and recently in a CT run that was horrendous for all, to be fair. I just replied with "yup" to begin with, or "kk"...but when the caps lock went on and the dude started on the Monk and other healer too, I just ignored all further comments...thought he was originaly just a peeved person asking for us to concentrate more...turns out he was a rager!

Sometimes language is the problem tho. I went into Denzils Darkhole the other day on roulette and had newbies with me. The Tank and Black Mage said they were new. I was very nice, gave some guidance and we burst forth. The Monk was silent, but was running ahead pulling things, going the wrong way, despite my directions. I asked had he been here before, he said yes.
I continued, repeating my instructions (the tank had trouble understanding the power of the crystal light), but we got through in the end. The Monk continued to be a little crazy, but got better as we went on. When we reached the end all 3 of them got the mapping.
So, the monk had not been here before, or at least not to the end. He was silent most of the run. I think he just didn't understand english. I guess, my bad for not checking his language, but if he'd just said: francais or whatever language...I could have done the translate or such like....

So, I think, sometimes people are scared/embaressed to fess up to being new, or not understanding mechanics because they'll get teased, like you say. But others maybe are too shy/not first language with the rest of the team....
Either way, I'd prefer it if they were open. I won't ever be mean (even if someone is being mean to me - I just ignore it), and will try to help them. Payback for all the fab people I have met who help me when I say: Erm...first time here. Handy tips appreciated!

    This.

Given the toxic tanks that /leave as soon as a 'noob' puts their head above the parapets then is there any wonder new players stay silent and hope they'll get through the ordeal without being detected.

Honestly... I know you're not allowed to whisper people in dungeons BECAUSE SE is concerned you will use it to harass others, but I kind of wish it were possible anyway. The reason I say this is because I feel like people would get less defensive if I gave them friendly advice in a whisper rather than being forced to say something for the whole party to see. If everyone can see it, everyone can comment on it... and a lot of the time, that leads to bad things. Saying something in party for everyone to see may be taken as an attack whether or not it is intended that way. I guess there are ups and downs to every policy.
