    Jobs talk

When we first saw an interview with Yoshi-P on one of the fan sites back in the winter... (I think it was Core but I obviously can't look it up), Yoshi-P first mentioned Jobs saying he didn't know if they would be jobs or advanced classes....

My friends and I clearly started speculating rampantly...
    I know, that is dangerous....

And we all didn't even agree... But the one thing we all had in common was that there would (or "should" I guess is the better word) be at least 2 jobs per class to give players a choice about their class role....

Classes like Pug would have an evasion tank role and a more DD role to choose from...
I don't know, we were stupid to speculate so wildly... but there is a chance this will happen eventually anyway....

Do any of you think more jobs will come out down the line for the existing classes? or will New Jobs need new classes to unlock them?

Lastly... we also thought it would be awesome if multiple classes were needed to unlock certain jobs.... At odd levels too Like 36 Glad, 30 Sentinel and 20 Conj for Palladin (With Glad being the main class that influences the weapon type)

or A mage that needed Thaum to 36 and Conj to 30 That was the ultimate debuffer/enfeebler

BTW, I use 36, 30 and 20 because these are when the class quests are available and kind of represent milestones (Yard-stones?!?!?!?!?) in the class development

What about Glad to 36, Pug to 30 and Archer to 20 for a dagger only Thief

the only problem with that is many jobs require swords and so Glad would get more love than the rest of the classes and thats not really Ideal.. I guess
    What do you guys think?

Multiple jobs leading to multiple roles per class would definitely be great to have.

Same thing for FFT style job unlocking.

    Just FYI:

A dev offered to take our questions to the Dev team about jobs on the French forums.

We pretty much all asked about the possibility to have multiple jobs per class, and we were told that he could not give any info at the moment.

The only draw back would be limiting the amount of jobs to come out in the future by attaching them all to current classes. In theory it'd be good, but they're really just extra skill sets are they not? Nothing is stopping a Pug from evasion tanking, and in fact they can be quite good. But the job attached to Pug, which could be monk? Would allow the Pug to deal more damage with attacks that don't rely on evading attacks as it does now.

So in theory, Pug is equipped with the skills that rely on tanking, so the job you unlock would be maybe for more of a DD. Gladiator is a good tank as well, but perhaps as a Paladin you rely less on strength and more on white magic and protection of others as well as yourself?

I don't know, speculation can be fun. But if they're being referred to as alternate play styles, I'd kinda like to think that the jobs are covering what the base class can't do well, or enhancing what they should do best.

Well yea.. but Glads can tank now and yet they are coming with Palladin....
I guess we'll have to wait and see how classes are rebalanced

I believe there will be more jobs for each class in the future, it is not easy to balance a class, let alone 12 classes.

I may be being a negative nancy, but I don't think the job system will succeed without multiple jobs per class. At the very least, eventually, in the future.

Bottom line, everyone wants to play a job. They're kinda sick of the classes. The way they have appeared to us so far is that your gladiator will be able to just toggle paladin on and off. That really doesn't seem likely. Everyone will want to stay on their job. Playing a class without the title will become obsolete. Basically, it's just adding an extra step to playing your tank job.

Like I said... I don't want to be negative... It just seems logical that the only reason to toggle your job on and off is so you can toggle a 2nd job on or off. Once the mechanics are in their, throwing another job onto a class with different stats, abilities, limits, whatever, should be pretty easy.

Try not to think of it too much in ffxi terms, because you'll start thinking swords will get the most love, as stated above... But... You know, maybe blue mages will come in 4 expansions, and they'll use whips, along with puppetmasters. Who knows. Those weapons don't have to carry over.

An old discussion talked about limiting 2 jobs per class and how that could be possible, and came up with some pretty good theories, all adjusting the way the class is equipped. I can't remember the thread anymore, but it went something like:

GLD -> Pld and Drk, drk allows dual wield of the swords.
PUG -> Mnk and Thf, the types of H2H weapons were divided between the two
MRD -> War and Viking?, introduced 1 handed axes, allowed sentinel to be equipped
LNC -> Drg and Dnc or Pup, blunt spears (so poles) could be introduced as a lancer weapon, used by a dancer or pup

And so on. I just think this could still be possible in the future based off the information Yoshi has released. I'm trying to keep my hopes medium though. Who knows.

Thats exactly what I want to see happen...
thats why speculation is so dangerous.. If it doesn't end up like this.. there will be much disappointment and sadness....

To try and stave off the coming flood of "So if gladiator becomes paladin, then what will xyz class unlock?" You'll have to stay tuned for more details in the future!
