I believe it will be 1 Class to 1 Job for unlocks BUT I am hoping that each Job can use more than 1 Class so that they are not tied to 1 weapon type.

If each class unlocked more than 1 Job and Classes are tied to Job for their Level then that would mean for example if GLA unlocked PLD and DRK as somebody suggested then if you solely Levelled GLA using the PLD Job then you would also have a capped DRK without even using it. If down the line they also added RDM to GLA then that would also be capped. It is for this reason I can not see them allowing more than 1 Job to be unlocked per Class.

Now that shouldn't mean that each Job is locked to one Class/Weapon type though. So say the GLA unlocked PLD but later on they released a new Class for G.Sword then the PLD should be allowed to equip that G.Sword/Class and change to a more DPS role when straight up tanking is not needed.

It all seems a bit confusing when I read that back but it makes sense in my head somehow lol

I'm not TOO worried about that.. People are going to gravitate to the weapon that their job excels with... Pld / Archer... Everyone wants to know that they can do it, but nobody will do it. If it's available, there will be too many limitations.

This though, I kinda forgot about. Slightly disappointed. The only way that could work would be if the two jobs are similar enough to not merit needing to level them both and learn them individually. Pld and Drk would have to both be tanks in different ways... Mrd and Vkg could be similar... If they added poles under lances and gave em to pups, both drg and pup could be similar, both controlling a pet slightly differently. I guess. Blm and Whm both using magic, just... On a different set of targets... *sigh*

My favorite idea (useless now because its been decided and beginning to be implemented, but still fun to share) even split into 4 easy to follow steps to help the development team:

Step 1: Adjust classes for divisible weapon types.
    - GLA loses daggers (just change name), gains 2 handed swords
    - MRD gains 1 handed axes
    - PUG might be divisible enough already
    - LNC gains blunt poles
    - ARC gains crossbows
    - CON finished
    - THM finished

    Step 2: Adjust physical levels
    - Remove rank bonuses, all calculations are based of physical level.
    - Class rank becomes Job level, Physical level becomes class rank.
    - Swap skill points and EXP on monster defeat, adjust skill point requirements to match previous physical levels.
    - Finish balancing point allotment, adjust stat calculations and formulae.

    Step 3: Implement job mechanics
    - Once job a job is unlocked, it is automatically equipped. Once 2nd is unlocked, they are switchable.
    - Job levels share a common Class rank, that works like the physical level did, except... Fixed.
    - When switching jobs, 2nd job on same rank gets to keep the boosted rank as a small benefit.
    - Balance balance balance balance.
    - Rank earns WS's and Spells, Level earns JSA's and Traits.

    Step 4: Implement jobs/quests.
    - GLA unlocks Pld (Sword/Shield) and Drk (G.Sword). Both magic users.
    - MRD unlocks War (G.Axe) and Vkg (Axe(s)). Both raw damage and intimidation.
    - PUG unlocks Mnk (Cesti-type) and Thf (Claw-type). Both excel in blocking/dodging.
    - LNC unlocks Drg (Spears) and Pup (Poles). Both have a pet.
    - ARC unlocks Rng (Bows) and Tracker (Crossbows). Both...are...ranged?
    - CON unlocks Blm (Staves) and Whm (Radicals?). Enough said.
    - THM unlocks RDM (Scepters) and Time Mage (Whatever those things are called). Enhancers/debuffers.

Like I said, useless now, but still fun to think about. At least for me. Woulda been great, in my opinion.

I want this to be a turn around so bad. I think changing the classes to reflect more traditional ones is best idea ever. However, there is a huge pot hole. You have preset classes and a years worth of diehard FF players who are unwilling to accept thanks for the longest Open Beta. <Presses Reset Button>. Fresh start for everyone! lol jk but seriously if you go advanced job you still have an older flawed system. From what I gather classes such as Paladin, Monk, Thief, ect.. will have their own unique skills that no one else can obtain unless you choose the pregen archetype. Kinda makes me think of how Champions Online is with open power system and a Archetype system. Just the Archetypes are more enticing since they have things no one else can get. Such as you can only get "Steal" if your a Thief. I also not totaly sold on cross classing at all. I think if you want a dps who can use cure type magic then vote up a Mystic Knight or Dancer. Dont be like Thief with Cure gogo.
