It's painfully obvious you never played an eastern developed game..ever if you think this system is on par course.

You do realize other vanity systems in EASTERN DEVELOPED GAMES will even grant bonus stats..right? They use a mask system more so than transmog/destroy system.

While there's the refer-a-friend program with its unique perks, the game still has leveling. They streamlined the lower levels a bit because 90 levels is an awful lot, but it's certainly not instant. Downing bosses? There are easy bosses and there are face-smashingly difficult bosses that take the average group a great deal of time to surmount. Gear? No, that took first the ability to down the boss, then winning the RNG lottery - or for some slots, getting enough points to buy an item from a vendor, and in the case of raids you had to work with the weekly lockout (and weekly point caps outside of those). Achievements? No, there are a great deal of achievements that take a ridiculous amount of time and effort to obtain. Professions? Admittedly not as complex to level as XIV, but they do take some time, especially if you're not just tossing a bunch of gold to buy up all the mats you need to speed level something on a new alt.
What about being able to purchase (soon) level 90 characters? Most every quest in the game is mere feet away which you can finish and complete in a minute or two at most. Did you ever play the original Everquest? Asheron's Call? Final Fantasy XI? Etc.? Or any of the other 'starting' MMOs? Anything less than a couple hours to a day to get something is pretty much 'instant'. You ever play a week or two just to get a single level? You ever have to run all the way across a continent instead of "fast traveling" via a flying mount (ie Wow) bypassing all the "dangerous monsters"... It could take hours to travel to places you wanted to visit having to run.You ever sat on a slow boat/airship to someplace for 15 (or longer) minutes waiting for the boat to not only arrive but to travel the entire way there (Pre PoK)... XI "dunes".. etc. I remember a time in EQ when simply having copper equipment was considered special.

Now go ahead and ask again How fast can you reach max level? Its even faster now than when I tried it years ago and even then it was still horribly fast.. compared to what was already out there. I'm not saying everything should be that slow anymore, though, and we are talking about when WoW was an up and coming MMO and comparing it to what its competition/pace was. Most everything everyone is used to in WoW from the moment they started playing could be considered instant compared to camping for hours to get a low level.. for example. or trying to find a group to level up with at a "camp". It was nearly unheard of to be out "soloing" to level off of simple quests mere feet away. WoW changed what people considered fun into a new format that they molded. Most everything you were used to in WoW took 5x.. 10x.. 20x the time and effort of most other games in the early MMO days. Early MMOs were about grind grind grinding. Hours... days... weeks... months at a time.

That is what I mean by "instant" gratification. Looking at something in WoW that takes an hours and looking at the same thing in another mmo (nearly the exact same thing) that instead of takes hours, could take a couple days or even a week.

I'm not saying those days should (or even could) ever return but.. I would honestly like a bit more time than it currently takes to reach "max" level in an MMO. Peoples standards (mentality) changed with the way WoW did things and now they "expect" it to be at least as fast as WoW... if not faster.

You select the piece of armor you want to put under the Vanity Filter.
You right click on it/press circle on it.
Select the Vanity override command (like Meld/Convert/Repair...there is a button)
Select an appropriate replacement armor from the list of what you have on hand.
Your armor is replaced with its new visual override. You can now deposit the vanity armor into a retainer or some other storage unit...From what I can tell you cannot destroy or sell the armor as it has to be under your ownership for the vanity to work.

I think it uses a consumable item to work though, that's pretty much it.

I wasn't so much talking about the vanity system specifically when I said 'nothing is ever simple, it always requires a cost.' It's just that systems that should be easy or player-friendly because they're cosmetic or otherwise not game-affecting tend to be overly complicated and costly in Eastern games. I was surprised to see a LotRO-style housing system appearing in FFXIV, only to read that some items, once placed, are destroyed if you try to pick them up. Then, a purely-cosmetic vanity system... that is complicated and has incredible restrictions.

Anyway, I had more to say but I gotta go to work, lol.

Yeah this isn't typical in Eastern games...just Square Enix lol. Even MapleStory's Farmville makes more sense than this game at times.

With the pattern of gear progression versus worth of crafted ones. In the end, most players will have similar stats without much variance. This is what i feel is lacking in the game, the freedom to "really" tweak your characters stats. Accomplish your own dream stats by personalizing gears through the materia slots and melding system. The vanity system is good but too cosmetic. I want crafting to really have value in the game but Yoshi made it clear otherwise.

The coil losing the lockouts is what im waiting for too. DF is a pain, but Ive been pugging all this time and oddly enough, enjoy having the difficulty of finding the right group as well as completing the dungeon.

The beastman dailies looks good, i got the two previous mounts already but hopefully there will be less FATES with quests. Im not too excited with the potentially boring daily grind like the repetetive ones we have already but the new mounts/minion is too good to pass out.

I always welcome comic relief in any game, Hildibrand quests are just too short for me to enjoy them.

More HM's and Extreme version is a good diversion but too much of rehashed dungeons without creating "real" new places that is "hopefully" not within Thanalan, La Noscea or Gridania forces me to keep on doing monthly subs ready to drop once fed up going through the motions. Right now its more glitter than substance. Its a patch i know not a real expansion, but ill trade it for one anyday.

Here is a the UI in a western MMO,

    http://i.imgur.com/zdSKUoG.jpg

simple drag and drop where you put the items you want your gear to look like from the bag and pay with gold. They items not destroyed they stay in your bags. I have never seen a game that destroys items for vanity. I think when people wanted a simple UI vanity slots they were talking about something similar to this.
