Scythes are already in the game as botany offhand. Makes more sense to use a 2h sword like most dark knights.

I say great sword or just sword and shield.
Scythe usage just never seemed right for a Dark Knight.
Now once a beastmaster/tamer class is introduced, if they want a new weapon type, they should figure out how to introduce whips to the game, especially since its a long time FF weapon.

No, I did see them. I just don't see that changing at maximum one secondary stat can make a worthwhile difference. Onion Shield adds 7 parry and 11 CHR. 7 secondary points at i90 is to the tune of 0.2% DPS, give or take. It's a small percentage of the value of the shield as a DPS stat stick and largely meaningless overall.
Actual two-handed swords were typically around 6lbs (2-3kg), smaller than Bakiraka has suggested. They were weighted toward the hilt, so that they were easy to maneuver. It was very, very rare to have a weapon heavier than 8lbs (4kg) because it became too slow to handle effectively in combat. As huge as the Goblin Longsword in the game looks, it is proportionally only slightly larger than a real-world 4lb (<2kg) counterpart. The main exaggeration there is actually the width rather than the length of the blade. The Curtana, Bravura, and Dual Haken are definitely too large, though only one of those is constructed out of a material with a real-world counterpart -- sorry, I don't consider magical crystals to be anything like lead glass.
Scythes are not balanced for combat in any sense. Without conversion into a gimpy polearm, they're an absolute mess to handle with virtually no combat strengths -- you'd actually be better off turning it around and hitting someone with the haft. Would give you a lot more feasible range.
//EDIT:
Yoshi just uses it as an example of what could be done. That's far from confirmation.
