It's more likely that they're planning to change it so AOE spells are limited to the "Jobs" of CON and THM.I may be reading too much into this, but I interpret "we will remove the AOE toggle" to mean, "We will remove the AOE toggle and replace it with an interface that is much more intuitive and easy to use than the current implementation".
Not, "we are going to put -ga spells back into the game"![]()

That's actually more along the lines that I'm thinking, honestly.I may be reading too much into this, but I interpret "we will remove the AOE toggle" to mean, "We will remove the AOE toggle and replace it with an interface that is much more intuitive and easy to use than the current implementation".

But, who knows? CON/THM may be getting some rework due to the upcoming implementation of jobs.
EDIT: Whoops, Zuellni said it first. >.<

Use the macros, thats what theyre there for.

I even enlarged the action bar to emphasize how the current hotbar and targeting system is perfectly fine. Check out my other FFXIV videos here:

Up to now, majority of players have been doing it all wrong imo. And thats what determines that this game is broken.
NOOOOOOO BAYOHNE! Tell them they must not remove this feature, it is game breaking in my opinion is it by far one of my favorite features of the game.

I also read it this way, tbh. But personally I am fine with both. It needs to be changed one way or the other.I may be reading too much into this, but I interpret "we will remove the AOE toggle" to mean, "We will remove the AOE toggle and replace it with an interface that is much more intuitive and easy to use than the current implementation".

You are just spamming AOE cures while using macros for debuffs, sure it works but, in your case, what's the point in even having an AOE toggle? You're not using it, you're simply avoiding it. Which supports the fact that this widget sucks.Use the macros, thats what theyre there for.

Personally, I have my macros set up as equip change and action bar change macros since SE decided it be a wonderful idea to make switching jobs an utter PITA. Unfortunately, since I level everything, I don't have a whole lot of free macro spaces.

Why would anyone want to get rid of this? It's one of the things I actually like about the combat system; in fact, it's too good -- there's no downside other than accidentally tagging mobs you don't want. And really, you double click to open every file in your computer, how is taking an extra half a second to press a button a second time suddenly making or breaking a combat system? It's a GIANT GLOWING GREEN BUTTON, people. If you can't see that the GIANT GREEN BUTTON is glowing and blame the game because you didn't take half a second to click the GIANT GLOWING GREEN BUTTON on or off, then you have bigger problems on your plate then whether or not the UI is "clunky".
And I hated -ga spells in FFXI. Single target and AoE versions of the same spell are usually wastes of space, unless the AoE version is so expensive that it's not worth using 95% of the time, at which point, they're still wastes of space. But who cares? I'm in the minority.
Edit: I just read the crown post. Well, maybe they'll find a way to make it less intrusive for the people who don't like it, without removing the functionality entirely. Win/win.
I really, really hated -ga spells.
At least Flare/Shock/etc. won't be almost completely useless now. :P

Might as well ask the dev team if, in the future, they plan on changing the game title to Final Fantasy XI-2 as well. Seems like most dev updates are pointing towards that.
Perhaps, there will no longer be a 30 action limit, and we will see 6+ action bars at once where we can just drag skills or spells we know and can use over to them. Other MMO's do this after all, wouldn't be bad.
But considering this is Final Fantasy and it will be tailored for PS3, there will more likely be a mini-menu like in XI where you can select your spells to cast.....
