On PS3 Release: New servers for new characters only.

Change "On PS3 Release: New servers for new characters only." to "On PS3 Release: New server for new characters only." and this thread might have a chance.

Although i doubt they would dedicate a whole server to a portion of a portion of the player base. They are having enough trouble filling the servers they have.

I'm slightly opposed to this idea and you can see my crafting is not high leveled. I don't care about dominating anything or impressing new players. I'm simply worried about the spread of players on our servers as well as the addition of a strictly new character server.

There are a lot of problems inherent with adding even a single new server, not to mention when we've got 19 already. That's a ton of servers for currently not a lot of people. Even with PS3 launch I doubt it would be enough to cause crowding on 19 servers. The problem comes after the 1 month trial period when inevitably a lot of people leave, on any game really. Then you've got a ton of servers, most of which with decent at best populations left.

How many users would really make use of this "New characters only" server? Would it be a ghost town after the free month? Would it be worth it in the long run to add yet another server?

I'm not saying they shouldn't but I don't think they will. I really can't see it being worth much in the long run to SE.

So merge those servers and give us a fresh batch to start on.

If the new servers are ghosted after a month, it'll be because S-E didn't improve the game enough to be sustainable and FFXIV is dead in the water. I think they'll have much bigger problems when it comes to the "long run."

The only problem with merging servers before PS3 launch is that, in the event we do get a flood of new players, they may have to end up re-opening some anyway which isn't fun for them. It's easier to keep them open then to merge, shut down and then open them again in an emergency.

I'm all for server merges and transfers and all but only after the population has stabilized from PS3 launch.

I dont think he was saying a PS3 ONLY server... just a new server in general...
And since there are no server transfers, a new server at PS3 launch would have only starting players...
PC people are of course free to create a character on that server
