    Deepvoid XYZ

Time to be a little naughty, but it's all for the cause.

Back in those early testing phases, I had the pleasure of being able to chat a bit via /tell with a character called Ferne Halwes. (Yes, it was awesome, and no, it hasn't happened since.) We had a number of awesome conversations, one of which was about the [db:enemy=6938f84e580]Deepvoid Deathmouse[/db:enemy] found in South Shroud.

I pointed out, quite rightly, that there was no freakin' way this thing was a voidsent. I thought it was a LOC bug.

Ferne's response was essentially along the same lines of what the Eorzean's interpretation of the void is. Namely anything that is seen as being not of this world is thought to have a relationship to the void, no matter how rational its existance may be upon deeper examination. Those deathmice had essentially become so large and vicious that they were deemed by the locals to be unnatural and that's how that breed of mice got its name.

In short, something being called "Deepvoid <blah>" does not actually make it voidsent. More like it is seen as something that has been warped by the void, taken over by it, remade by it, or something else along those lines. It's still a beastkin.

In essence it is not unlike our phrases, "hellish experience, hellhound, what hell did you crawl out of," etc. Sensible, save that these deepvoid ashkin popped out of the void. The best I can come up with is that they got gobbled up by the void at some juncture or someone cast Warp/X-Zone on them from FFV.
