New Servers upon PS4 release?

The PS4 won't have dedicated servers (except for testing), but apparently SE is anticipating enough new players to be adding some additional servers. Here's an excerpt from a Game Watch interview (as translated by Reinheart):

GW: PS4 versions beta test is starting finally on 2/22, are you going to open new servers?

Y: At phase 1 stage, we are going to open up several worlds set specifically for the beta test in Japan.

GW: So these are just test servers, and not actual servers for release?

Y: Yes, these are test servers for the PS4. From phase 2 we will start placing new worlds for the NA/EU DC and Japan DC.

GW: Are you going to move over those several test servers into the real servers?

Y: No, we’re going to wipe the data there so that will be different, but we will probably keep the world names and the test server names.

GW: So that’s going to be the new servers aimed for the PS4 version?

Y: We’ll have to see how successful the beta goes, but we are planning to add at least 2 new worlds for each individual DC. For the PC version we are also going to start sale on Steam soon, so I believe we’ll see more player increase.

Not to get off topic but I was taken aback by this question from the interview:

GW: On the PC version we have the breast movement, is this feature also in just like the PC version?

Y: Of course it’ll be in just as is, also it’s still being finalized but the wet effect is also coming in the PS3.

On my female char in the beta I noticed her breasts bounced as she moved -- which is nice and all don't get me wrong. But is that really a feature worth asking about for an interview like that? o.O

If you mean start on a new world with players from the launch date of the PS4 version then the answer to that is no. You will be given the option to start on the already existing worlds with experienced players of all levels. If you're worried about being taken advantaged of don't be. The world is vast and there is always someone around at your level learning the ropes as well.

According to that Yoshida interview posted above they're currently planning to open 2 new worlds in the NA/EU/JP regions at the start of Beta Phase 2. However, he did say that it would still depend on how successful the beta went, but given that they had to open additional beta servers I think there's a good chance we'll see a couple of new worlds open in about a month.

Considering the Beta was free and everyone has a PS4 with nothing to play on it, I would say that helped with the success of the beta. Besides people can still transfer in on those servers which would basically put the new would be player back to square one. I hope more people play it because that would mean the dev would be worked on even more to offer more content.

I would expect them to block paid transfers to the new worlds for the first few months. Just like how they blocked legacy players from transferring to non-legacy worlds, because allowing transfers would upset the economic/progression balance too much.

So glad I found this thread. I was in the PS4 Beta and loved it. I think its a great game. I was going to buy the CE from steam so I could bring that character over to the PS4. I see that can be done and there is going to be a steam sale SOON. So I am really excited I will pick up the Windows Download CE once the steam sale hits and then the standard edition on PS4.

If you have (access to) PS3 as well get the PS3 version instead - you can get boxed standard version cheaper than what's 1 month sub worth now - and upgrade to PS4 version for free. You'll get extra 30 days of play included too.

I too am a PS4 player and I have purchased the game ready for launch, I am a total noob to FF except for a few days on the beta phase 1.
so will there be a server on PS4 that will just be new characters as that's what I would be looking to play on
