Myth gear in 2.2 will be what philo gear is in 2.0/2.1 => will take longer to full myth gear in 2.2 than it is to full DL now
A lot of people do seem to be getting upset about this. I just assumed based on the gear we've had since launch that this would be the way gear progressed. I'm still technically gathering and discarding gear on my main (no turn 5 drops, missing a few other allagan pieces, might need to buy a myth piece for BiS reasons if other things drop, etc.), so while the upgrade process leveled out a bit, it will pretty much just feel like an extension of the same upgrading I've been doing since I hit 50. My only 50 alt is ilvl 80, so really it doesn't seem like a big deal.
I could understand if relics were like in FFXI (where at this point maybe somehow one crazy individual per server actually had one) and those were being made obsolete before people actually had time to acquire and use them, but this is just replacing relatively easily acquired gear with better gear acquired more or less as easily. I don't see any more reason to be upset about this than when you started upgrading from darklight.
I dont think OP is saying he wants his gear to be the best for ever, or that he wants everyone to have to struggle like he did forever. I think his problem is that they are making it useless so fast. Other mmos usually don't make it where it takes months to get the gear due to some casual token system AND THEN make it obsolete with every patch, not expansion.
I doubt they will lower it. Myth gear will be pretty sub par gear a couple weeks after 2.2 hits. I mean do you invite people in full DL to parties?
It’s going to take longer than a couple weeks for i90 to be subpar, but I can see it becoming the norm for people/parties fairly quickly.
ARR is almost following WoW verbatim. WoW had major content patches every 6 months or so and the item level of the gear in the dungeons/raids were raised in tandem. We'll have had access to i90 for about 7 months as 2.2 hits. Once the expansion comes there'll be a level cap raise, same as WoW.
Anyway, to the OP, this is how vertical progression theme park games work. Now you can spend that $45 collecting the new ilvl gear. Or don't. The choice is yours.
I just hope new content has a decent ilvl restriction. Don't wanna be farming new tomes with ppl wearing full DL and grand company weapon.
Hey look at it this way, they're doing everyone a favor, instead of spending more than $60 you just pay $13 once every 6 months and can experience everything the game has to offer up to that point easily, seems like a great deal to me. Less money for them more money for everyone to spend on good videogames, now that's what I call fun.
Is this like.... a thing?
Vertical progression gives endgame heavy players something to look forward to while less intense players eventually get some progression. This is a really good move on the developers' part to prevent things like WoW's 40 man Naxxramas being visited by about 3% of all people who played the game. It was a waste of the developers' efforts. You can be content with what you had when you played, or you can accept that your zomg-leet-lewtz slowly fade into mediocrity while the world continues to spin.
This principle also applies to just about everything else in society. Which is good. Because I don't want to pay $50,000 for a 200 MB hard drive like they once cost.
Useless is a very interesting word to use.I dont think OP is saying he wants his gear to be the best for ever, or that he wants everyone to have to struggle like he did forever. I think his problem is that they are making it useless so fast. Other mmos usually don't make it where it takes months to get the gear due to some casual token system AND THEN make it obsolete with every patch, not expansion.
My Main is almost in full 90, but I can't see all my valor gear being useless as I will not instantaneously be in the new gear. I have that THE WORST luck with Coil (look at my gear, I have 0 coil gear), and don't foresee myself getting coil gear in the next turns unless my luck changes. At this point, I am content with my Mythology gear and will use it for the very purpose I got it: To be ahead of the curve when it comes to the next patch.
