My own estimate is that there are probably about 100-200 active players on Besaid. About half are English and the other half are Japanese, although I've been seeing a lot less Japanese lately. It's easy to confirm the loss of players just by anecdotal evidence. This is alarming news but there's nothing to do in the game, so it's not that strange.
I agree that many people here don't realize the dire straits the game's in because it's actively losing people faster than a p2p MMO of its class, as a free to play game. While those people used to check up on updates 3 months ago, they have largely stopped. What was once fine as a casual break while keeping tabs on the game has grown into forgetting all about it for many ex-players who are now truly EX players.
Summer was going to be tough on this game. 1.18 is not enough to bring the game up to P2P. It will need a stellar 1.18-1.3 with no major mistakes and tons of hour-cranking content. Rift is behaving like WoW2 as well as it can and is making no mistakes. There are a ton of great games worth playing coming out.
This. Falcon you raise an excellent point. What was once a well intentioned simple break from the game while it gets its act together, is now for at least a few people, turning into something that has dropped out of short term memory for other pursuits (other games or RL).... It only takes so long before anxious daily checking in turns into weekly perusals turns into "Hey what's happening with that FFXIV game you were playing?" "Dunno, I've been doing other things, probably nothing." "Hey did you hear about that new game X that's coming out?" "Ya, it looks good, just waiting on that now, should be fun."
Would make this so much easier if they put search back in but hey cant have us seeing how low the populations are I guess.
Exactly, i haven't logged on in 2 months i got on today to check it out, same shit, nothing changed, i log off, and play another game. People generally arn't intrested in waiting for a flop game that may never get back on its feet when they can go play a successful game that is actually fun and rewarding to play.This. i took a break from warhammer about 2months after land of the dead got added in, sad to say i didn't come back till a good year later and the game was absolute shit. so much worse then when i left i quit for good 2months later.
personally i think most the players left will end up leaving, and even if we do see a ps3 launch at this point i still think half of the players that are still playing will disapear by then. can't deney i'm looking at other mmo's while waiting and i'm ready to jump on the first one that comes out next. i'll be willing to stay and play and keep tabs but this game will need a lot before i'd ever let it see a penny of money.
Trabia certainly feels dead. What few characters that are logged on seem to be motionless. The RMT lalafell train is more active than the players.
