(personal opinion, not to be construed as facts)
The designers of this game in this current form have made some decisions based on how THEY want the game to function. We have a story that at times require you to solo a fight, then at times require you to team up with other players to do a dungeon. BUT (and this is important) getting to level 50 in a basic class, not a job does not require or force you to do anything beyond FATES and side quests.

If you do not want to be forced to use the DF and you refuse to do your due diligence and research FC and find on that fits your nature then this games main story line and by extension some of the more interesting parts at the end of the game are not going to be available. This is frankly by design of the Devs. A majority of the paying gamers in this game accept and adapt to the devs requirements, and have accepted the rules of the game. At the end of the day this is in fact a MMO, so having a requirement to interact with other players is not unreasonable.

I am a vocal advocate of voting with your wallet, if this game is not meeting your needs then you are best served spending your money on games that meet your requirements.

@ OP Precisely what group content are you attempting and why? If you're attempting to progress the story solo when it requires a party you're missing the point; the developers have put the party requirement there so that you learn something of value - something that you will need later on in end-game content.

If you solo it you don't learn what the devs. are attempting to familiarize you with - a good example is the number of people that pre-2.1 did nothing but grind FATEs to level up. By the time they hit endgame or went back to complete their story they simply did not know how to function. It was painful to watch some of these players.

Removing party requirements would be removing the learning tools players need to experience in a slightly more controlled and manageable environment before they reach endgame; how can you effectively harmonize with a group, be able to execute combinations while effectively dodging and recognize certain mechanics in a highly volatile environment with less room for error if you never did any group content beforehand? You can't or it will at least be very painful for the people carrying you through!
