I can't believe Yoshi is saying we can't tell that things use very low texture resolutions. Are you kidding me? You can literally see the pixels in almost every piece of armor... They look absolutely horrible.

Exactly this.
My initial hope of DX11 was improving the overall texture quality among other improvements and getting rid of the many many many many many jaggies in objects like Armour and Weapons e.t.c
(Might have to open image in new tab to see full-size)
There's no way this should stand in what todays games are capable of, hell I'm not expecting Crysis 3 level of graphics but these kind of visuals were suitable for a low-end PS3 game... oh what am I saying, FFXIV is being limited to what the PS3 is capable of...

You regularly play the game from this view point or are you nit picking?
By the way I think the texture in the background looks uglier than your armor in that picture. Gray and dull. Though I assume that was the intention artistically. Lot of things in the world just look ugly.

Difference is SweetFX.
FYI, I've been using SweetFX since about a week after public release of ARR but it doesn't come out using the in-game Screenshot function, The only thing SweetFX does is change the colour tones and makes it more vibrant, nothing much else.
Yeah, I'm not really sure where he got that thought.
My enthusiasm for DX11 dropped significantly when he said we weren't getting a high resolution texture pack - not even an option to turn on in the graphic settings (which would be really easy).
they would have to re-make all textures, into higher res. that would take a lot of time. which is why they won't do it.
I think they should have made high-res/poly textures/models, to begin with, and downsize them for PS3/current PC, and implement the high-res, with DX11. That way they could upgrade the graphics, in the game, with each new-gen PCs.
Isn't that what they presumably are doing with FFV? With a future U-HD PC version in mind, or such.
But i agree, dat grass!
what are you talking about? this isn't Starcraft or something, you're supposed to be able to zoom in on your char, and see details, otherwise there would be no point in adding details. they might as well just have made it look like FF7, to save even more resources. If you see the pixels in armor, that's a good indication that you've ZOOMED IN TOO F**KING FAR! Look at the night sky during clear weather. That's not pixelated is it?
People are insane in asking for mega textures on things that are inch high on the screen! It's stupid and a waste a resources.
It doesn't take longer to make a 4k pixel texture, than a 100pixel texture, so there's no reason to not make it high res, to begin with.
If people want/can play with 4k textures, then why wouldn't they be able to?
I got 30+ FPS, on max settings, even at Odin, so there's plenty of room for higher res textures.
They just gonna change lightning and the like, like its supposed to.
Don't think they got the money to redo the whole texturing on pc, given you can add in tesselation with DX11 ...
Play The Secret World if you want awesome mmo graphics, is all![]()
Unless they deleted all the original assets, that shouldn't be the case. They've been scaled down for the sake of better resolution. And that should be the same for the newer pieces in order to keep them looking as crisp as they are.
Now, remapping them, that could be an issue which might take a while as it tends to bring up a lot of unwanted and unexpected results.
