They DIDN'T start maintinence early. There is such a thing as unexpected problems. Yes, by god yes we pay money. But With the amount of servers they operate? A terminal could commit suicide and cause a chain reaction, a bad piece of code could implode everything else. There are over a million possible screw ups when dealing with something like this. Its very much obvious they did not expect something like this. Infact, its very possible they thought they had their server problems slammed after the problems caused by launch.

And stuff will break, Why? Its made by human hands. Developers are not robots, they can't be and never will be. I don't care if it was 2156, I don't care if it was the year 67 thousand, if its made by human hands, its going to break.

As someone who works in IT myself - the server guys are probably just as frustrated at seeing all this happening as we are. It sucks, but it happens. Its not like SE was all "oh hey we're just going to let things break and our customers wont care teehee", But despite what some of these comments say - a lot of things like this are simply not easy fixes.
