I think, because this game is a reboot, that SE will have to very soon start pumping out significant amounts of new content quickly. They supposedly have already started on the expansion and will likely officially announce it later this summer. Which means that best case scenario the expansion comes out first quarter 2015. I don't think they really have that long. I'm not sure patches where, players get a new primal and a couple of new dungeons, will be able to sustain the player base for a significant amount of time. At least with the addition of new classes/jobs players could get the, perceived new again feeling, while leveling another class/job.

Supposedly, expansions will bring out new races and new lands, patchs will bring out new dungeons and new classes. I remember reading it back in August, and someone even posted it another post which reminded me about it.
Yoshi stated that they plan on giving us new classes/jobs in patches along with level updates, and when new expansions come out it will contain new lands and new playable races.
Now whether people want to agree or not, but this upcoming patch will be very important for this game to decide make or break, I think.
Why, patch 2.1 is technically launch. Everything in 2.1 is what we were suppose to have at launch, everything we were promised. So 2.2 is going to be the first true patch and additional content, there was nothing additional in 2.1 that we weren't promised at launch.. CT is now there, we were suppose to have a launch, housing again launch, extreme primals were suppose to be launch, and hard mode dungeons, again launch, and pvp.. again that was said to be at launch.
Patch 2.2 while they don't seem to be adding a new job, nor or are they raising the level cap, and they won't give Summoners a new egi, they are giving us a new primal fight, 2 new hard mode dungeons, 1 new normal dungeon, 4 more levels of coil... but what else? New crafting recipes and a higher item level and new tomes... but still what else? If they don't have something big, it does make me wonder how long people will stick around. People are getting fustrated, and they have a right.. in this day and age of mmo's to have this little content when you can hit end game within a day or 2.. AND have people already there at launch.. is a mistake.
actually dc universe released a new power within the first 6 months of the game, it was the hard light powers that became available with the fight for the light dlc.

I think that this is spot on. I think that a lot of people tend to forget that this is the game's second chance at life. People are expecting a lot. They are expecting SE to have learned from their mistakes. They have already mentioned that they are already working on the expansion. I figure that they will officially announce it during the summer. I certainly do not expect to see it out any time this year. I have to wonder how many people will stick around if, given a content patch ever three months, there isn't anything more than just a new primal, a hard mode, and a new dungeon being introduced. If SE did not want to introduce any new jobs until an expansion, they should consider at least releasing the class that would lead to them so players would have something. Content patches are kind of like a trial of bread crumbs. At some point, people just don't want bread crumbs anymore.

Yes, RDM please, please, PLEASE!
I would also love to get to play BLU again (although I'm not sure how they could work that into the current implementation of the FFXIV ARR Armory System).

exactly how I feel. I get around ok with blm or whm, but I don't get the tingly feeling like when I played RDM or BLU in ffxi. No jobs feel special for me at the moment ... I just get by.I want new jobs. None of my favorite classic ff jobs are in this game yet.
I would bet if they add BLU, it would work as the other jobs. learn spells with quests. I'd never see them actually learning spells like they did in XI. I guess they could add it as flawor, for example: Go fight a cactuar, to learn 1000 Needles.
I think the biggest issue people are having with this game is content burn out. This game is still on the crawl phase. people need to stop treating like like WOW. WoW had been out for several year and had had mass amounts of content added to it over time. Even FFXI had its content lowly added to NOT all at once. I think another issue is the player themselves. While the game isn't exactly hard much can be said about taking your time with something. A lot of players burn through the game so fast that they have nothing left to do and then whine about it. They are like fat kids who belly ache about heart burn when they eat to fast.
