So? The game should be improving... >_>

I agree completely with the OP. SE has pointlessly over-complicated what should be a streamlined, easy-access system. Having to re-do the glamour every time you get a new piece of gear is going to be a pain in the ass.

EQ II has a vanity system that I rather liked, which is something I cannot say for WoW's vanity system for example. In EQ II, you get a separate tab for your vanity gear, called "Appearance Tab". It looks like your normal equipment tab except that you can equip old armor that you like the look of, or gear designed specifically to be cosmetic, and your gear's appearance will be replaced with what is in the Appearance Tab.

That's what I was hoping for as well. An appearance tab is the absolute best option. Why MMO makers try to overly complicate these things is beyond me.

I was hoping for something simple like the appearance tab as well.

Nope. He said in the interview the recipes will not be expensive -- course not. Within days the market board will be flooded with them and within weeks the price will be down to 1 gil like a hell of a lot of other items are now. Unless they will be releasing 'new' recipes for each of the ten-levels on a REGULAR basis, it will be a minuscule drop of variety and busy-ness for some crafters for a couple weeks.

I sincerely hope they do plan on REGULARLY adding Glamour Recipes to change it all up but, I am not holding my breath. Plain vanity tabs would have been a non-hassle, could also have involved crafters and would be much less of a time-sink.

They could have involved crafters by giving them a plethora of outfits to make and sell, rather than the convoluted "glamours" thing. >_>

Yep, adding maybe two or three really cool looking outfits/armor sets per DoH that they could make for the vanity system would have been much better. They'd have made more money and it would have added more to the game than another annoying hurdle.

The problem with that idea, however, is that it wouldn't be consumable, and thus also unsustainable. The way glamours are being done, assuming the crystal is slotted in a materia-like fashion, means you will have to buy another crystal every time you upgrade a piece of gear. This is (potentially) a consistent revenue stream*, whereas new gear sets would just be 1-and-done if slotted in vanity slots.

    Edit: Was misinformed.
Either way, my point still stands. Everyone complains that the economy is broken and there's nothing to spend gil on, so they try to add consumable items to stimulate the economy. You then complain about the fact that it is too complicated.

    * Maybe revenue stream was the wrong term, a more appropriate term would have been cash flow. People just won't be sitting on their gil now, they will be spending it on glamour crystals. This is a good first step to getting the economy going again. In the long run, however, it is up to the players to avoid crashing the prices.

You need to go to crafters for crystals, these crystals would be set to ilevels of equipment similar to dark matter, (all equipment level 10 and below, 20, below, etc) You "copy" the image of the armor to the crystal and put the armor away. You can then use the crystal for the graphic.

Now how will this work from there they didn't say. Here is my specculation:

    * It might be that you have outer slots and you keep these crystals in those slots, saving on inventory space and keeping your look the same no matter what you actually equip
    * You "use" the crystal and it evaporates, but changes the look of the given armor piece you are wearing. Meaning you need to re-copy a new crystal for new armor.

I'll see if I can find that interview link and post it.

Edit: I found a posting of it with a better translation: http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...naoki_yoshida/
WTF? Why would they do it like this? Agree with OP, its just annoying to have to jump through hoops just to change a look. Then they wonder why it took so long to implement! Rift did a great job with it, new vanity tab in the character screen, slot in the gear you want to appear ... you could even make most of the slots invisible. This is just going to cause more of an inventory mess than we already have.

/sigh Is it me or does Japan just like to over complicate things for no reason?
